Alana the Beast
I took a road trip to New York over the weekend and read K. Elle Collier's, My Man's Best Friend. The first thing I noticed was the writing style, I absolutely loved it. The way she shows and not tell throughout the book gave me the chance to picture the images in my mind like a movie. "My stomach did a somersault with a back double dismount," she said in chapter 33. Putting it that way sure beats me reading a book that said, my stomach was hurting from the look on his face - BORING!Plot: At first, I can't lie, I thought I would be disappointed because by chapter 5 I still had no idea where the story was going, in what direction it was heading or why I should continue to read. But I read so many great reviews on the book and the writing was so smooth, I kept at it. I started to engage with, Kai, the main character and wanted to know had she found the love she was looking for. Then I found myself falling for, Todd (Kai's man) because of his personality and the way he pursued her. But let's surely not forget the Hot and Steamy love scenes. In the end, I found out that this love story had twist and turns I didn't expect and kept me turning the page. "OMG, no she didn't," I found myself saying in the back of my mind. By the time I was introduced to Alana, the antagonist (the opp) of the novel, I was in. She had me thinking all sorts of ways about her existence. I wanted her gone, I wanted her to find a life of her own and let love take its course but that didn't happen. She played her devilish games to the bitter end and I wanted to reach in and slap the taste from her mouth.K. Elle Collier ability to create round characters and a moving storyline that dealt with real issues: sibling rivalry, drug addiction, true friendships and infidelity carried me to the end of the novel and I will surely be reading part II.My only problem with the book was that I don't like to wonder if the story will pick up. I know we all hate that one book or movie we suffer through hoping and wishing its gets better but it never does. Me, personally, I need a bit of foreshadowing to know what's to come just like the eerie music in a movie that lets you know someone is watching from behind. Other than, I rate the book a solid 5 stars and recommend My Man's Best Friend to other readers because it did, in fact, have a narrative that should hold your interest.

it started out as a regular romance novel about a lady (Kai) who had found love after so many relationships did not work out
I don't even know where to start, except to say lately this is about the only book I have not been able to put down. And it has sparked my interest in reading again. Since I finished this one I have read one more book and started another one.It started out to me, let me say first I did not read the description of this book before I started to read it, so I had no idea what it was about. So for me, it started out as a regular romance novel about a lady (Kai) who had found love after so many relationships did not work out. I found myself excited for her to have found someone she considered her soulmate. And he (Todd) sounded like the perfect guy except I did kind think he was too good to be true. After the best friend kept coming up I had to go back and read the title of the book a few times. I guess you just assume a man's best friend would be another male. As it turns out his best friend is female and they were childhood friends. And then comes this sudden twist of Kai and Alana (the BFF), I just did not see that coming until of course she arrived at the house with the movie and wine!! Then the line of questioning starts so you almost know what is about to happen. And the rest is history. I found myself toward the end as the story starts revealing wishing I could hit a few people in the head with a skillet for being so stupid. Kai was stupid for even entertaining Alana in the beginning. Todd was stupid for not being able to see thru Alana. Alana was just a stupid manipulator which is probably why her husband left her. In reading this book you can get so caught up in the drama that you miss the healing that takes place in Kai's family. The part that disturbed me a bit was how things turned out between her and Raymond. I didn't particular like the way she treated him after he revealed his part in the dreams she was having. She had been so caring and compassionate with him when the rest of the family walked out on him. She seemed to understand the addiction had a hold on him, so in the end why couldn't she see that and forgive him? I would not doubt if the way she treated him push him back out to the streets. Even though I could understand her hurt and pain...I don't think she handled it well. Can't wait to read Book 2.

Hmmm
Kai should of seen that coming a mile away, and kept her guard up! Todd is just what the southerners mean when they say a person is an 'educated fool'! Alana is a grade A narcissist!!

Good enough story and characters to fathom, lacked some punch for me as a bit too inevitable...still a good enough read!
