Great coverage of the island
Lots of good walks when you have an elderly dog or weather stops you doing more serious walks. Got me to parts of the island I hadn't visited before. Very easy to use.

Suitable for all levels......
We did four of these walks and found our way easily - all except The Fairy Pools longer walk....(we were not the only ones who couldn't find the left turn after the pools....people had different books and we had the official map from the visitor car park too - many turned back!)......a great book, with excellent walks for all abilities....

Great, convenient little book with varied walks
We bought this book for our recent trip to Skye and it was great. Its small and easy to fit in your pocket for walking, and the cover has flaps which are very good for marking the page. The walks are divided into sections according to their locations on the island, which we found useful for planning day trips to the different areas. The walks are not hard, so we could fit 4 into a day as we are keen walkers. The book served us well to show sites we would otherwise have missed. Upon our return friends who have a holiday cottage on Skye, and visit it regularly, commented that they had not known of some of the places we visited. There were only a couple of nagging points - the Quaraing walk in the book involved catching a bus at one end, which didn't appeal so we did a loop instead - the common walk people do there and as marked in another guide book. I did not see any benefit to the one in this guide, other than that its slightly shorter - perhaps including the loop as an 'option' would be good. Also on the 'four churches' walk the view to Dunvegan castle described in the book is now totally obscured by trees that have grown into the view point, obviously now much higher than when the book was written.

This book MADE our holiday....
We've just had a week walking on the Isle of Skye - mixed weather, two 7 month old puppies, only our 2nd visit to the island (the first time we didn't walk anywhere!)and we really wanted to 'SEE' it - this book is FANTASTIC! We followed 11 of the 40 walks in 6 days - two overweight, middle-aged, happy but non-too-fit walkers. The detail is brilliant - yes some trees have been felled since the book was written - but I can honestly say, we would not have enjoyed our week anywhere near as much without this book. Daft as it sounds, it's dead easy to get in & out of your pocket, which on a wet & windy day & trying to keep 2 puppies under control, is ideal. The walks aren't easy, but that's part of the fun, and so long as you don't mind the boggy paths (which the book warns you about), these routes take you to the most amazing parts of the island. Tips on where to park are a great help and it's SO clear to follow each route. We want to return to Scotland next year and will definitely get another of these as it was so helpful. A huge thanks to the authors for a job well done :-)

A little gem that is a must have
We go on holiday to Scotland at least once a year and as we have family in the West Highlands, that is where we often stay. I have wanted to walk in the area more but have not known where to go or what to see. Thanks to this little book we have finally seen the Fairy Pools at the base of the Cuillins and discovered an abandoned croft in the woods not far from where we were staying, again thanks to this book and one of the many walks. We did of course take a map as well should the weather have turned but this book was small enough to keep in my daypack for easy access. In the evenings I also enjoyed just flicking through it and marking the walks that I want to do next and it helped us to see a little bit more of Skye. Unfortunately the one walk we couldn't do because of torrential rain was the Old Man of Storr but at least now we know where to park and which route to take.
