cheap-as-chips way to expand your artist toolset
Having previously owned some second-hand Kuretake spirit markers (chisel tip markers for product design/design renderings) and being in the market for a brush pen (even though I didn't really completely know what that meant previously), I decided that this product was good enough for my needs - I really just wanted to get my hands on another brush pen. I did not realise however, what a 'real' brush pen was, and for the miniscule price point of this pen was pretty happy to see individual bristles and an actual ink-feeding system (there is an intermediate chamber between the cartridge and nib but I cannot really work out if it is gravity fed or not, I sometimes have to squeeze ink from the cartridge into the chamber to get things moving again). Like my previous Kuretake spirit markers the flow rate of these pens is very high - obviously I have no metric against which to compare, but if you are not careful you can be putting down some pretty heavy lines when chamber has a decent amount of ink in it. This has it's advantages though, and for someone like who is often trying to figure out the human form from imagination it is pretty useful as the startling immediacy of the line means you have to lean into sketches full tilt and take no prisoners with marks. For £3.50 personally I don't think anyone really has an excuse to skip buying this pen, even if it is only for occasional use. As for the brush pen aficionado who wants to know if this offers something different I can't really say as this is my 1st. What I will say is I got a cool little origami crane with it, and because I didn't check where it was shipping from I didn't realise it would take a long time to get to the uk (I believe it was about a week)

Very good purchase. A brush that writes like a pen or vice versa.
Package arrived a few days early, secure, well wrapped, exactly as described and in working order. Everything one would get from a calligraphy brush in a pen. The line variation based on the pressure you apply to the pen is great for practicing Shodo. Pens are great for fine details or blocking in large areas in a drawing as well. The ink seems very even in both colour and consistency delivering a very solid black line. Still have to test the ink to see whether or not it runs. Cleaning is a little bit of work, but much the same as cleaning a Koi or Derwent water brush. The tip comes apart and snaps back together easily. I could not find the proper refills for this pen on Amazon.ca. I did find them on another website listed as: Kuretake Zig Cartoonist Brush Pen Refill Cartridge - Black
