The #1 Flavoreed is similar in strength to the 1.5 Rico reed and is made of French cane. Most begginners do not like the taste of cane and do not moisten the reed thoroughly. The purpose of Flavoreeds is to hide the taste of the cane and inject a slight flavor into the reed. Is is not to be a sucker so the student does not salivate. Like chewing gum, the flavor of the reed will dissipate with use, but the taste of the cane will be gone. Students love them and it adds excitement to the classroom.
