We needed a temporary stair case after a new home build without deck. These were just right for the staircase size. It's difficult to get all of the screws into the wood, but based on the angles needed, that's to be expected. I'd prefer some way to fasten top down and could probably rig something up, but for what they are they're ultra solid and have worked for us.9

I strongly recommend using carriage bolts with these. Supplied screws are difficult to install via bottom access. Using carriage bolts makes for a easier installation and very durable.

they look good. we will see about durability. FYI. the screws they provided are a joke. you will Not be able to 'just screw them in straight." NOT possible. poor engineering choices. You CAN use carriage bolts or if you MUST maintain "clean appearance" on top. You are gonna have to toe nail the screws in.I bought these because I plan on moving these stairs in the future. thought this might be easier than the old wood stringers.

To get three risers in one package to build a 48" wide set of steps was incredible...They are built well and just think in snow bound areas, No wood rot!! No termites!! Just keep up on painting with metal pain every few years and you're set! I used 2 x 6 two on each step impressive and quite majestic. After I stain them I'll come back to add a photo....What are you waiting for? Oh and Yes, ALL my neighbors came by and said they wished they had thought of it.....METAL...and very attractive!

Overall the stair stringer is built well, sturdy and lightly powder coated. The design leaves a lot to be desired. It comes with concrete bolts to mount it to a concrete wall and “self-tapping screws” to attach the wood steps to the stringers. The concrete bolts are fine but only work for concrete, so if you need to attach to anything else besides concrete, you will have to buy a different type of bolt. The biggest problem with this design is the way that the steps are supposed to be attached. The screws are supposed to go through the pre-drilled holes in the stringer and Into the step from underneath. This is not possible due to the incredibly limited amount of space under the step. Even with a stubby screwdriver and pre-drilling all of the holes in the steps, there is no way to screw them in without having a specialized screwdriver. The only real solution is to forgo the screws that came with the stringers, purchase lag bolts and bolt through the top of the steps into the stringers. It is painfully obvious that whoever designed this product has never actually turned a screw! So, if you purchase these step stringers, also plan on purchasing all of the proper hardware since the hardware they send is of no use. This product gets three stars due to the fact that the it cannot be used without modification and having to purchase additional hardware that should have been included with the product in the first place!
