The Winner

Great plot and so well written. One of the best story tellers around. The whole story kept changing and evolving.

I tend to get fed up with books populated by incredibly ingenious villains overcome by a fortuitous combination of handsome, spunky men and beautiful, talented women who live more or less happily ever after (what they call in German a "Happyend"). But then, I guess, if they were ordinary folk, we'd never get to hear about it because (a) they would be too boring for words (just like all the rest of us), or (b) the baddie would inevitably triumph and we'd never be any the wiser, so perhaps I shouldn't moan. So, what we need to get us from the beginning to the inevitable end in an entertaining manner is a good plot, well told. This manages fairly well on both counts.At the beginning of the book, I guessed the end, and got it nearly right (there were more survivors than I expected). All in all, an entertaining read, just the right thing for train and plane journeys. Sure you could read a lot better, but you could also read a lot worse.

I cant recommend this highly enough! One of the best books Ive read in a long time. Very interesting subject, thrilling right from the first page & totally gripped me to the point & couldnt put it down! Thank you David Baldacci xxx

This came before the expected date and is like new. One of the most exciting books we have ever read and someone pinched our copy, so it had to be replaced.

Really like this book, I have read almost al series by David Baldacci and this is a first stand alone book I’m reading, it got me hooked on very first pages.

After I had a nasty accident involving broken bones and plaster casts, I found The Winner to be wonderfully therapeutic. Intriguing storyline, surprising heroine, satisfyingly evil baddie - this book kept me away from thoughts of pain, boredom and inability to sleep. Never read a Baldacci that I didn't like, and this one has been a lifesaver. Don't read it just after you've bought a Lottery ticket though.
