Avet Reels SXJ 5.3:1 Single Speed Reel

These reels are very high quality, but this size is significantly smaller than your old school Penn reels and Shimano Torium 12s. I bought it for my wife because she did not have her own rod and reel and she loves blue. I mounted it on a 7 foot Okumo rod which may be too big for this reel. We will see. My wife was very happy with the gift. She will use it this summer.

Great little reel if you know what you’re buying. Though it can land big fish, the small frame, relatively small line capacity, and drag has made me choose to put it on a pole I use for smaller game fish and nearshore rockfishing. Very smooth and lands big yellowtail no problem. Just don’t force the drag too tight.

High quality billett aluminum body and spool. Handle looks oversized because the spool is so small.

At first it was rough but once you set the drag the correct way this is an amazing reel you will not be disappointed buying anything of this brand20lb braid held 550 yards

I haven't had a chance to test it on a big fish, but I don't have to. I have used Avet reels before and can tell you they have one of the smoothest drag systems out there. This reel is small but powerful. It is built as solid as a rock. I can't wait to put it to the real test jigging wrecks for bottom fish.

Just a heads up. You would think a reel from Avet for almost $300 would include the cover and the anchor plate to the rod. Well this one doesn't.

The reel was a gift and it was very much appreciated. The person loved the reel and has used it fishing. He highly recommends this reel.

This is a fantastic reel. Don't let the size fool you, using this reel, a size 6 hook and an entry-level boat rod, my friend brought in a 100# marlin. Great for ling and other ambush fish.
