My short-term memory is not what it used to be. I decided to start carrying and using a Field Notes book, but I wanted a leather cover for it. I searched Amazon and elsewhere and concluded this cover was the best value for the money. It is made with soft (distressed) leather. The color is a nice dark brown, but scuffs easily. They call it Crazy Horse leather. The nice thing about it is it ages well and fairly quickly. The scuffs almost rub off. It's very forgiving. The cover includes a card/ID pocket and a pen loop. I found that the pen centers in the cover better when you use a pen with a pocket clip and clip the loop from the outside. It helps the cover close more easily, because the pen rests against the spine of the notebook when closed. Stitching looks to be good quality and is only where needed. I expect this will hold up well over time and get better looking with age and use. For the money, I couldn't be happier.

I've been searching for a multi-function notebook cover that also has an integral pen loop, and can protect a US passport. There seems to be good leather notebook covers, and good passport holders, but few items will do both. This cover is an effective compromise. It's well constructed of medium weight real leather, with excellent stiching and provides protection without being too bulky. The inside pocket options work well for me, and besides securely holding a passport it can accommodate cash, a credit card, or other flat items in addition to a 3.5 x 5.5" notebook. I knocked off one star because it "scratches" easily, and has no closure mechanism. If you like the rustic/ distressed look, then this finish will work for you. I plan to treat the top grain with neatsfoot oil to reduce the incidence/appearance of scratches, and punch a couple of small holes in the spine to add a leather lacing strap. With these mods, I'm looking forward to using this field notes cover for many years to come. For the price, this cover is a good value.

My favorite travel buddy. I appreciate the classic leather texture and dimensions. I own a high-tech phone and gadgets, but nothing compares to the traditional pen and paper for quickly jotting down notes.

This slim yet attractive cover fits a couple of Field Notes notebooks and a pen. It's comparable to some of the higher priced options and has been working well for me.

It's real leather has a nice smooth quality feel. Not too big and not too small. This is a must every day carry for personal or business. I personally use it for work and I love it.

Beautiful perfect size for field notes. Others were too big which negated the profile of the Field Notes. I can put this in my pocket and take it everywhere. The fresh smell and smell of leather even better. Highly recommend.
