and love the bleak landscape
I know very little of the witch trials, but they've always fascinated me. I lived close to Pendle Hill for a short while, and love the bleak landscape. The writing is both scholarly and engaging, so much so that I read the book in almost one sitting. I initially bought the book 'for fun' but this book, with its vivid telling of the events and the era, has really piqued my interest.

Indepth book on the Pendle witches
This is heavy going, with extracts from the courts in the 17th century, but for an academic like me is really good as it gives an excellent narrative and insight into how the legal system changed due to the Pendle witch trial. Very good.

Of all the histories concerned with 1612 and Pendle, Lumby has produced by far the most accessible and useful. The text is commendable and his approach is well balanced in providing the facts and theories.

Not wonderful
Hmmm - it's OK, but the first three chapters haven't really grabbed my attention - in fact I put it away and got another book out. I'll try it again in a couple of months.
