Fantastic little radio, plus so much more!
I rarely give reviews on items but I'm so impressed with the quality and features of this radio that I just have to share. It's smaller than I thought it would be and I'm really happy with that. A small child can carry this with ease. So many features including a hand crank that will keep us in touch with the world when our power goes out. The sound quality is really, really good and our backyard buttes up to a mountain. I'm ordering another one for my brother today it's so good. Can't tell you how pleased I am with this product.

Works well and is compact in size
Purchased so we will have weather info, in case electricity is out. This unit delivers NOAA weather, as well as AM and FM and does so with either solar, AAA battery or hand crank power. It has a siren, flashlight, reading light, decent antenna, and a compass for camping/hiking. It is not large or heavy, so is portable if camping. Overall, happy I got this via Amazon.

It All Works, Even AM: Recommended
Everything functions properly. Note that the flashlight has a narrow beam but is bright and functional. The Manual Tuner: After returning a competitor's model with a digital tuner (12,000 mAh) that would not pick up AM stations, I was pleased when this unit picked up 3 AM stations from about 170 miles away (during the day). Although AM is out of favor, the signals carry long distances. When the power goes out, I want information. No AM reception could make that problematic. It seems that a manual tuner allows you to tune in very weak signals whereas the automatic digital tuner requires a strong signal to lock-in stations and screens out all else. Not good. IMO, picking up local FM is nice; but, a serious emergency is likely to knock out power to at least the local area, and likely for some distance. FM stations may be off-air, blocked by terrain, or too far away. The tuner dial back-light works well. The one desirable feature this unit does not have is shortwave reception. My next one will have that. Thus, I gave 4 stars (and almost gave 5). The option to use AAA batteries is great. Similar radios of this type often lack that. Cranking is a pain and the solar panel would take many hours, and maybe days, to charge the 10K mAh battery. As the directions explain, the solar is primarily to maintain the internal battery, not to act as a robust solar charger. This radio's primary charging method is USB. AAA batteries, however, can be used instead if needed, and can be stored as part of preparation. The ear phone jack is essential. It allows battery conservation (unless you use wireless) and provides quiet for others. Conclusion: Recommended.

Handy radio
Cool little radio package for the price. Picks up the common radio frequencies and has good light capability and other features. I was more interested in having a system that could be powered by a hand crank and is why I purchased this item. A back up for a back up.

Major limitations, and Solar Charger is a Joke
Update: I have raised my rating slightly following contact from the seller after this review posted. Although all of my negative points below are still valid, they did try to work with me to improve my satisfaction with the product. Although I still cannot just leave this radio on permanently as an emergency weather monitor, I do find that it meets that need very well as long as I keep it charged and only turn it on when the weather forecast is threatening. Not ideal, but perhaps acceptable. In that situation, it functions very well, and will stay on for at least 3 days, enough to get us past any storms (or at least to let us re-charge it on our own schedule). When it receives an emergency broadcast message, the alert is very loud, so we can immediately check out the situation to decide if any other action is necessary. The built-in lights also work very well and are handy in case of an unexpected power outage unrelated to possible bad weather. ORIGINAL Review: This thing kinda works, but there are three HUGE flaws: 1. The weather alert mode keeps the display light constantly on, running down the battery faster than needed, and 2. The solar charging is pretty much worthless. Even with the unit turned completely off and sitting in the direct and very strong sunlight for 2 days, the battery charge display did not change one little bit! 3. Worst of all, the radios do not work while charging from the USB cable, so you cannot just leave it connected to a charger all the time if you want to use the weather alert function. I mainly bought this with the intent to leave it sitting with the Weather Alert active, but as described above, that is pretty much pointless; it will work for a few days, but then you need to charge it up manually, and the weather alert function does not work while it is charging! The solar charger at first seems very sensitive, with the red "charging" light coming on even when the unit is just moderately close to a window, but the fact is, it never seems to charge. Even when sitting in direct sunlight, the weather alert function will run the battery down (proving that the solar charger cannot even provide enough current even to keep the radio in standby mode). On the plus side, once the battery is charged, the radio does seem very sensitive and is capable of picking up even weak signals. But if you have an extended power outage and plan on using this unit to keep informed about what is happening, you are screwed. And that pretty much puts to death any hope of using this unit to charge your phone too, since the battery cannot even keep the radio on!
