Purple Rain weathers time and stands AWESOME still
I remember this movie, this soundtrack from back when it was brand new. And I was a small kid, did not understand really what was going on, but dug the music and this musical cat thinking outside the musical box that I knew.Years pass and I forget (through no conscious decision, rather other music and life factors move me other directions) about this epic album. Then along comes a friend of mine, into DJing who excites me into joining him in the world of spinning, of vinyl. So now that I have plunked down a few hundred on equipment and a few hundred on vinyl from local record stores (please continue to support local vinyl as well as Amazon "big box" efforts), what is an aspiring DJ to do?Listen to music. I tracked down every CD, every MP3 I could find and combined this with vinyl. Listening to music was literally like homework and I would race home after work and listen to at least a few hours of music a day. After a music marathon (and operation credit card reduction) month, it was time to select various classics that basically every music owner should own (and especially own on vinyl for any DJ work). First two things that popped in my head, were Purple Rain by Prince and Thriller by Michael Jackson. Both albums influenced me earlier in life, were pivotal in my musical (and therefore perhaps life) decisions and have influenced even who I am today.Purple rain, purple rain... The only thing that could have sounded any better then that was the intial needle touching to the vinyl (MAN, I LOVE THAT SOUND). I usually run around and do other stuff while I am listening to music (I bought wireless headphones, see my other reviews), but I literally had to just sit. And listen. And love. Again. Listening to this album inspired me to see the movie again, and BOY, did I miss alot when I was young. This is not a movie or record to play for children, not sure how this one slipped passed the parents exactly. But buy it, in some form, appreciate its musical pageantry, its history and its epic status as one of the (comic book guy from the simpsons voice)... best... albums... ever!So yeah, bought it off a Amazon Seller, shipping was fine, condition was alright, music and experience = priceless!

Bought as a gift
I think I own Prince's entire collection of music on one format or the other, but to find out that my 20 year old neice had an interest in The Artist, that was only one choice for her 21st birthday gift...SHE LOVES IT!!!

Worth it, even for a casual fan.
Like many people, I am a casual Prince fan, but have always appreciated his contributions to music and his gift as an artist. In looking to build a record collection of albums to hear as they were "originally" (in their analog format) and to appreciate listening to an entire album, rather than a greatest hits complication, I decided to go with "Purple Rain" (already knowing "When Doves Cry" and the title track). I am not disappointed....in terms of music, I am more impressed by the engineering and different sounds that are layered together--in terms of quality, this album is a GREAT pressing. I've been let down many times by "remasters" or repressings that are overly noisy, even after a wet/vac cleaning. If you're a casual fan like me, it's worth it, even just to appreciate what an album from '84 could sound like in need terms of sonic dynamics and a wonderful marriage of classic rock and 80s synth.

Still great
I've always been a Prince fan, enough to own a handful of his releases, and his Hits collection. But I've always had respect for him as an artist. The guy could just do it all. After the tragic news of his death, the movie played in a local theater, and it reminded me that the only copy of the soundtrack I ever had was a cassette tape. I still have the tape, and have an old portable Walkman, but I never really use them anymore. So I decided to get a copy of the heavy-vinyl. Of course it was hard to get a copy at the time, so I had to wait a while.Worth the wait. This album holds up so very well. A true Prince classic, and an important album for the time. And it ends so perfectly well.

Prince and the 72 Revolutions (per minute)
My first run-in with this album was when I was 11 years old. My best friend's baby-sitter was playing the cassette and dancing in the living room. I have loved it ever since. I have the tape - and the the CD ... it was time for the vinyl. Firstly the delivery packaging was amazing - sturdy and secure. It arrived in one piece and in perfect condition. The Album packaging is great as well. It comes in a protective plastic sleeve - and the the record sleeve is in plastic as well. Basically you can keep this album mint forever without spending another cent on a protection. The Album is that new heavy-duty solid 180 Gram Vinyl that will resist warping (unlike the lightweight floppy albums of yesteryear). If you are a collector of the devil-plastic --- you cannot go wrong with this addition.
