A Fistful of Dollars [Blu-ray] [1967] [1964]

Gritty western starts a legend.
This film broke the mold of hollywood westerns with a gritty gunslinger swindling two rival gangs. Westerns were never the same again, thank goodness. I only rated it 4 star, as the dvd version I purchased shows in a frame smaller than my TV screen - should have checked the tech details. I hadn't seen the film since the 1970s, but it is still fresh, a western with some humour and the beginning of a legend.

Buyer beware!
Although it says 2.35 Letterbox, it is Letterbox for a 4.3 TV.That means, the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen are double their height.Sadly, amazon fails to make that point clear.

Western at it;s best
The trilogy of Fistful of Dollars , For a few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly are terrific though the small screen size on he earlier 2 is a bit disappointing.Great to watch as a box set on a cold winters night.

My mule dont like people laughing
Very entertaining introduction to Sergio Leones trio of spagetti westerns. Apart from some excellent gunshooting scenes the film also has some good humour. Great acting and good story/plot make it a winner!

The original spaghetti western
A story about a wanderer who pits two rival gangs against each other to his own profit. Based on a Japanese drama, Yojimbo, which was also adapted less successfully into a Bruce Willis vehicle - Last man standing.Despite the 'spaghetti' label there is nothing cheap about the drama. Gripping and entertaining throughout.
