This worked fine right out of the packaging but required purchase of a 9 V battery--- battery not included. Description says no battery needed but it does-- some packages of this product include a battery-- this one on Amazon does not. It worked perfectly with simple instructions-- calibration.

Really like how the user interface functioned. Recently used to mount shelving in the closet. Perfect alignment every time. Even used it on shingle roof successfully to find rafters. Placed over thin cardboard. Only issue was not believing it, when I should have.
