Why not get a BluRay player that upscales regular DVDs? Wouldn't that be far more versatile?

I'm getting this over a modern Blu-ray player for a number of reasons. A. This device can be easily unlocked to play any region DVD's, a region free Blu-ray player costs around $200. B. I want a dedicated DVD player that is made strictly for that purpose as I have a huge DVD collection and not many Blu-ray's, for many Blu-ray players, the DVD aspect is somewhat of an afterthought and not the purpose of the machine, you will notice in reading Blu-ray player reviews, people often complain about their players not playing older dvd's getting error messages with DVD's ect., it is a different technology and an "add on " for a Blu-ray player. C. Modern Blu-ray players try to do too much, they have all this technology and bells and whistles, there are a lot more things to go wrong in them, freeze up and fry the machines, ect., they also are constantly getting on the internet and updating software and that can make the machine more prone to go bad too with one bad line of code or a virus. My Sony Blu-ray player jumped on the internet and reported me to Sony because it thought the disk I was watching was a bootleg, my player actually tattled on me while whatching a movie and the machine froze and I got a notice in my email from Sony accusing me of pirating. In any event for me anyway, there are a number of reasons I would choose a good basic player for $50 and not have all the bells, whistles and headaches. dose this player remember where it stops?

Don't you just love all the conflicting answers to this simple question? So I'm going to assume using good faith that everyone is answering truthfully. Then logically that means there are several variations of the Panasonic DVD Player DVD-S700 where this function does not work on one variation (let's say maybe the black version) and it does on the white version. How else can you explain that I just received the black version and there's no way this resume function works using any of the straightforward or convoluted instruction provided in the manual, in the answers below, or instructions found by googling. Sorry folks, if you want the safe answer, it is no this does not resume where you left off after stopping (not pausing since that would be a "dah") the episode. Just as an aside, I've owned many dvd players over the years, and this is the first one I've encountered where this function doesn't work.

will this playback DVD +rw media

Have a deck with 2 sets of speakers wired for stereo. Want a cd player to drive these to a low minimal volume. Would the Panasonic changer provide enough power to perform this task? John in Colorado .

After doing some research, I purchased this dvd player to play CD's. It does a good job playing the CD's that I tried out...no skipping and good sound quality. Easy to hook up to my audio receiver. Good price for the product. I recommend buying NEW in case issues arise.

GREAT DVD Player

I bought TWO of these DVD players. The first one I bought was on December 3, 2016. I liked it so much that I bought a second one on November 12, 2017. I put that one in the attic in case the first one I bought failed but so far so good. I've been using the first one now for a year and a half and have had absolutely no problems with it. It is VERY simple to set up. You have to have either an HDMI cable AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable, 6 Feet, 1-Pack or an RCA Audio Video Cable RCA Cable Audio Video Cable 3 RCA to RCA Male to Male M/Mx3 for Old TV Gold Plated - Red and White Yellow Cable (6Feet(1.8m)) to connect it to your TV. "Older" TVs use the RCA cable. Newer TVs use the HDMI cable. I already had an HDMI cable so I was all set and my TV is eight years old. Then you just plug the DVD player into a regular wall socket and you're up and running. Just two simple connections and that's it. All I wanted was a simple DVD/CD player with none of the hassle of all the "frills" and I got it. Make sure you buy the player with "1080p upscaling." This upconverts a DVD player to 1080p to get the best HD picture, almost as good as Blu-ray.. I have a Panasonic 42" 1080 flat panel TV and the picture is great with this DVD player. My only complaint is that it doesn't have a clock but I really don't need one. What a bargain for 50 bucks!!!

So disappointed

This was a disappointnent from what used to be a quality brand name. My main complaint is that the sound cuts out constantly on a regular basis. I thought it might be my HDMI cord but switching that out made no difference. I also find it annoying trying to put in a DVD. The tray feels so flimsy that I am afraid to break it & it's frustrating getting the DVD set correctly in the tray. The remote is really frustrating as well. I have small hands & fingers & still have trouble pressing the buttons. I would not recommend this player. Definitely not worth what I paid for it.
