KAMISAFE Portable Handheld Turbo Fan - 100 Speeds Adjustable USB Rechargeable Fan w Digital Display, 3000mAh Battery Operated Small Pocket Fan Mini Cooling Fan for Travel Camping Outdoor (Black) TLDR: This is a quality fan that has a good set of features and most importantly can move a good amount of air. In the landscape of portable fans in this form factor, the sheer number of lookalike fans are mind numbing. They range from complete junk to very effective at moving air. It would be actually completely impossible for the average person to know what they are getting themselves into. You never know until you actually try it for yourself. That's the problem. The price of the fan also does not correlate well either. To complicate matters more, unless you test a dozen of these fans, you will not know to what degree it excels or falls flat, either. I've reviewed around a dozen fans of this type to date, and here's what I found out about this one. 1) Does it move air well? This is the single most important criteria. On a scale of 1 to 5, any fan that scores 1 or 2 is complete junk. This one is a 4. Above average but not the best, however it is up there with the best. 2) How loud is it? This is just about average. At the lowest setting, there is a whine that is more audible than most fans. At 100%, it is very average in volume, in that most of these fans are pretty loud at max speed. It is bothersome when trying to listen to music but not so loud as to be distracting when having a normal conversation. It will be too loud to use in a church/chapel, classroom, or library at max speed. 3) Is it convenient to use? Not as convenient as it possibly can be. This fan has a physical on/off switch that must be turned on before it functions. Some fans have a push to start feature, no fiddly switch to toggle (or eventually break). I prefer the push to start styles. THAT SAID, I found that the switch can be kept permanently on the 'on' position, unless I'm storing this away. Once it is kept on, it is a simple matter of just turning the fan actually on and at the various speed levels by using the two control buttons. A short tap on the control will increase/decrease fan speed in set increments: Off, 1%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. This is a perfect range. By long pressing either button, the speed can be changed in granular 1% increments to any arbitrary percentage. That is, if you can time it so that it ends on the percent you actually want. The numbers fly by so you'll just end up at approximately the percentage you are hoping for. In other words, unless you just don't like the preset speed, you can keep it at the arbitrary speeds and be done with it. At any speed, a double tap on the down button and the device will shut off. This is convenient. 4) How is the battery life? This one scores average. I noticed that running the fan for an hour on the 25% setting, I drained the battery life by 20%, which translates to about a 5-6 hour run time on a full charge at that speed setting. This is advertised to run anywhere from 2-20 hours depending on speed, so this is pretty much in line with those estimates. 5) How are the aesthetics / how well is it constructed? This one scores very well in that the materials are quality plastic, with a nice LED screen that has soft, rounded edges that blend seamlessly with the grill face. The handle has a soft rubberized foot pad for a soft landing on the table, and it stays put because it will grip the table surface well. I don't like the chromed plastic on the control buttons. I think it jars with the dark plastic motif. I would prefer actual metal buttons that are more muted, or matte. That would look better overall and exude more quality.

My final judgement: nice good looking handheld fan. It is perfect to be used as a desktop USB fan too with the lowest fan speed. High speed can be noisy and only usable on the street. The good: --------- This is a nice little handheld fan. The building quality is good, the weight and shape is perfect for hand holding. It is very good looking, the display screen is beautiful. I like its charging option. USB C charging is a big plus. It is also compatible with a wide range of chargers. Some rechargeable devices I owned won't charge at all unless the charger is a 5V only charger. This fan works well with my laptop charger, which can negotiate with the device to determine the voltage from 5V to 20V. This fan only accepts 5V so it can negotiate with my laptop charger to get the appropriate voltage. The lowest fan speed, 1% speed, is perfect! It is quiet and the wind is soft and comfortable. The fan has a flat bottom so it can sit on desktop well. I kind of like to use it as a desktop fan too. The mixed: ---------- The screen displays the remained battery life. Only when you switch the fan speed, it display the fan speed. However, the line of "AIR VOLUME" is always on even when it is displaying the battery, really confusing. You can adjust the fan speed in 100 levels, but I don't think anyone would need it. They also provides the traditional step adjustment: 1%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. Some portable fans can be used as a powerbank. But for a small size and small battery, it is fine that they don't provide this. The bad: --------- The manual has both Chinese and English but the English font is way too small! Here I measure the noise level 1% speed 40dB 25% speed 45dB 50% speed 58dB 75% speed 74dB 100% speed 69dB 75% is louder than 100% due to a sharp noise. You can see that 75% and 100% speed is really not meant for indoor usage! Personally I don't find the 100% speed even close to my AC's noise (58dB) though the db meter says the small fan is louder, mostly because AC's noise is bass and can shake my body, this fan has a sharper noise. Still, not a good choice for indoor usage. So, 1% to 25% is good for indoor usage. 50% is OK for walking on a small street. 75% and 100% is probably only usable for a busy street but I won't recommend using it on 100% speed becase the fast battery consumption.

This is a relatively decent fan. It's compact, easy to hold/carry, pretty powerful, lasts a long time on a charge, and is easy to use! Unfortunately though, it gets uncomfortably loud to have nearby once you get over a speed of 25 (out of 100), and goes about as loud as a hair-drier as you get towards the top (75-100). In addition, the instructions that come with it are pretty bad and confusing. To lay out the important instructions clearly: There is a main power switch (near the USB-C port) that must be flipped for the device to be able to power on; however flipping this switch alone will not power it on. Once the main switch has been flipped to on, you must then press the + button to power on the fan. Whenever you power it on, it will start at the lowest setting of 1. You then have two options to control the speed: You can either short-press the + or - button to jump between 1, 25, 50, 75, and 100, or you can hold the + or - button until it begins ramping up or down respectively and let go when it reaches your desired speed. In addition, regardless of what speed it is set to, you can double-press the - button to turn it off. (Alternatively, you can also just flip the main switch off.) And if you're not going to be using the fan for a while, you should flip the main switch off to prevent accidentally turning it on, as well as to prevent it from slowly draining the battery waiting for you to turn it on. With those instructions out of the way, I will say that this fan lasts many hours, whether on the lowest or the highest setting. That said, the higher the setting the shorter the battery life (of course). With where I typically have been using it (around 25 due to its loudness), I get about 7 hours from a single charge. And while it can be pretty forceful near the top of the scale, it pushes a relatively small volume of air, and so the "breeze" from it may not travel as far as you would expect. It is, however, really nice that it gives a clear percentage readout of the remaining battery life as opposed to most devices that give you at most three lights to "guesstimate" it from. In addition to the loudness caused by the small blades and high-speed motor driving them, I have noticed after only a few days worth of using it (about three full charges), the bearings are already making the occasional strange noise. It's nothing worrying yet, and it seems to only be when it's first started up, but it does make me slightly concerned about the longevity of this fan's life. It is hard for me to give a definite recommendation for or against this fan. It does seem to be built strongly, it does work relatively well, you can customize very finely how strong you want it to blow, and it lasts a long time on a charge. But with the slightly-concerning bearing noises already beginning, and the amount of noise it generates in general at any moderate speed, I feel I have to give it a rating of three stars.
