I have just received this mess tin but my goodness I needed to right a review quick because it is perfect. It is a great size (I got the bare aluminum half liter one) and the aluminum is very thick. I was very worried it would be flimsy because of other similar mess tins I was looking at (including the sought after trangia) all seemed like very thin aluminum and indeed that is what those reviews stated. Since I am concerned about the longevity of this mess tin and want it to last a long time even though it is aluminum, I went with camping moon for the price ($16 or so), for the measurement markings, for the steam hold and they had pictures of calipers measuring the wall of the tin. I’ve purchased stainless steel cups from this brand in the past and liked them so I gave it a shot. And I am so glad I did. The metal is so thick I am confident using it on open fire. It is almost the same thickness (slightly thinner)as my reproduction aluminum German mess kit and that one works beautifully. This tin is so well thought out and at such a great price I would highly recommend. The only thing I would say in the negative would be the rubber on the handle is loose (Because it is rubber tubing that the handle is put through rather than a rubberized coating) but I plan to remove it anyway to have just the bare steel handle. If you’re looking for this style mess tin I would get this particular one because it is even more useful /better designed than the famous trangia.

Great size, fits in my Stanley cook box (of course) and look forward to using it! Lightweight but sturdy, love the drain hole design!

The rectangle camping pan is compact and sturdy. It’s made very well and I like that the stainless steel is thick, so no worrying about warping.I was worried that a pack of ramen wouldn’t fit in there, but it does. Of course, the noodles had to be broken in 4 to fit inside the pot, but it writ. That’s all that really matters.After the first use, there was some marking on the bottom from the fuel I used (gel cube). But all of the spot came off easily. Nothing unusual in regards to the wear.I’d recommend it. I think it would be awesome if there was a grill insert that could be used with this to steam dumplings and whatnot.
