WHAT DO YOU WANT IT FOR?
Having read other reviews before purchase, opinions were divided enough to have made me hesitate. However I am pleased with my purchase. It does what it says and is good at it.If you want a machine which will carve back neglected hedges, this is not for you it is a "Garden Groom" after all not the gardener's alternative to a chain saw!!.It is a little heavy in use above waist high (remember it has a substantial motor), but standing on low steps is not a problem. I speak as an active 66yr old.It does not catch all the debris - but then I never really thought it would. That said, the vast majority is collected, and personally I am quite content to sweep the few remaining leaf scraps into the foot of the hedge. It certainly saves a lot of hassle. In short it does what it says and does it very efficiently, but do not think it will do jobs for which loppers, saws etc would be more appropriate.

Garden Groom Pro - easy to use, collects the clippings, saves lots of time and effort
Great - just what I wanted. It collects up all the clippings - saving a huge amount of time and back bending effort! There is an on-board box for the light hedge trimming through the season, or there is an attachment with a funnel/tube extensionleading to a large zipped bag that sits on the ground if there is lots of clippings expected. It has a good strong motor to ensure most hedge branches can be cut - even up to ~15mm / half-inch thickness.I used it in Spring this year (2013) to cut back lots of growth from this year as well as all the 2012 Summer growth that I couldn't cut back last year due to all the rainy weather. It was quite tiring on my arms, shoulders and upper back - mainly because there was so much hedge branch length to cut back and the fact I was using it for several hours. So, the Garden Groom Pro makes easy work of trimming through the season, but is quite heavy for the initial cut-back if you are using it for a long time.It is very useful for tidying up the hedges - hence it's name, "Garden Groom".To summarise:Positive: Well worth the money; it removes the need to collect up the clippings at the end, saving you lots of time and effort.Negative: It feels quite heavy after using it for a while.

Excellent......but wear safety glasses.
Package arrived promptly and was opened a couple of hours later. Assembly was simple and the cutter was ready to use in minutes. Doing the 'non blokey thing' I scanned the instructions booklet quickly and go to work on my first hedge. 40ft of 4ft high tight evergreen hedge was trimmed and looking good in about 30 minutes. This includes using the small attached collection box, which filled rather quickly with cuttings and switching to the volume collector. I had a small amount of clippings fall onto the ground which being gravel will be sorted once my blower/vac arrives from Amazon tomorrow.Bottom line is....... This cutter is brilliant.PS. This cutter occasionally throws out tiny pieces of cuttings if the cutter is not flush with the cutting surface. They fly very fast and seem to head straight for the eyes......so don't be a 'numpty bloke' like me who did not wear safety glasses and ended up in A&E with a very painful cut eyeball from the fast flying chip that lodged in my eye. My fault not the machine.

Usefull if you use it right
I got bought this as a present as we moved into a house with lots of hedges. The unit is well made and the motor feels powerful in the hand. It is heavy, especially with the collection box on, take the box off and use the tube and bag is my advice. It is only supposed to be used to keep the hedge neat and tidy once trim. It is no good at cutting back a hedge so you will still need some hedge trimmers from time to time.

GROOMED OFF.
Over engineered, too heavy for more than about half an hours work. Difficult to use when working on ladders or staging. Leaf collector attached has not got big enough capacity. When tube and collecting bag are attached it becomes difficult to use above shoulder height. I consider this tool suitable for very light tidying up of small bushes etc. Unsuitable for long mixed hedge runs. In all the product was well sold. You can see it at my next car boot sale. £10 .

Makes a mess
Been looking forward to treating myself to one of these for a couple of years and must say quite dissapointed. They are quite heavy but are manageable and do an excellent job of munching up the cuttings but don't collect all the pieces and leave lit bits of shredded hedge all over the place - not too much of a problem if cutting around lawns etc but if near a patio then bits everywhere to sweep up after. This was the best price I have found and the delivery & service was first class.

Seems good buy
Used only once upto now but well impressed. Took some getting used too. Small collector seems too small to be of much use especially when you have a lot of hedge to cut. Collector bag is great but will take some getting used to again,. Both collector and mains cable needed constant untangling whilst trimming hedge but am sure with more use will get hang of this. Overall, finished hedge was upto a great standard and what took 3hours with standard trimmer including tidying up cuttings on first use of garden groom took no more than 2 hours which with more use am sure will take less time. For best results use on a more regular basis and dont allow hedge to grow too long before trimming. Also great that it cuts trimmings up really small which is great for compost heap.Hope I get years of use from this great trimmer.
