Fabulous. Classics in the way young folks WANT to read them. Illustrations improve reading comprehension.
Fantastic. Comments range from, "I couldn't put it down," to, "It changed my life!". "Why did they kill off the characters I care about?" "I never knew anything like this existed. Where has it been all my life!?" These beautiful books have circulated 5 times each, except for Romeo and Juliet, which, although it is new, is to it's second reader. LOVE. AM fundraising to get ALL of them for our library. ALL of them. We currently have Jane Eyre, Romeo and Juliet, Sense and Sensibility, The Count of Monte Christo, Les Miserables, Emma, Great Expectations, The Stories of Edgar Allan Poe, Pride and Prejudice, The Scarlet Letter and either Tom Sawyer or Huckleberry Finn, they are checked out so often that I hardly get to see the covers. It is GREAT!

AMAZING
The illustrations are incredible, and to stick with the original text in it's entirety! This series is tied for my favorite non-fiction series as they are my favorite versions of Shakespeare's works, which are my favorite plays and non-fiction.

Nice adaptation
I normally communicate in English (I'm not native speaker but pretty fluent). However, this book made me feel like a novice. The Old English was kind of confusing at time though the art was beautiful.

Absolutely Beautiful
Like many people I had to read Romeo and Juliet in high school. Also, like many people I really disliked reading Shakespeare. This version makes the story more relatable and readable. It made it so I wanted to finish the book and not just read the sparknotes. The artwork was beautiful and the dialogue was much easier to follow then the original. I cannot get enough of these Manga Classic editions. I want to read all of them. I think this is also easily digestible for a younger audience as well.

Awesome rendition of a favored classic
This is an absolutely beautiful rendition of the classic tale. The characters are wonderfully drawn and give a depth to the story that I hadn't previously seen with just reading it.I shared the story with my children and the teen was thoroughly impressed. They said it gave them a much better understanding of the story and it actually helped them pass their lesson on Romeo and Juliet with flying colors. My younger daughters (7-9) also loved this book as the action was easy to follow. I feel like this book was a great addition to the Classics series and would work for all ages, story content and appropriateness considered.

Enriching and Enhanced way to Enjjoy the Classics!
Romeo and Juliet- Manga Classics – by William Shakespeare, by Stacy King, Crystal S. Chan (Adaptation), Julien Choy (Art), Akanovas (Lettering), Jeannie Lee (Lettering)There is no need to go into the synopsis or plot of one of William Shakespeare’s most famous plays. We all know the basics of this story by now. Many have read the play in school or have seen a stage or movie adaptation at one point. So, I think it is safe to skip the analysis. For me, Manga is something I flat out ignored for years because I presumed without ever giving it a fair chance that it would not be something I’d enjoy. Then I discovered it was often geared towards teens or young adults, which was yet another strike against it. But, by sheer accident, I discovered Manga covered a lot of areas, and was much more complex than I’d given it credit for.Having gotten to an age where I’ve dipped my toes in many different genres, and sub-genres, I find that the ‘I’ve outgrown this’ or ‘aged out of’ attitude closes off many unexplored avenues and because I like to think I’m open minded, I’ve begun to reconsider areas I’ve previously closed off. As a result, I’m having a lot of fun learning about Manga, Graphic Novels, and Comics.Much to my surprise, I’ve found a nice selection of classic stories, in Manga/Graphic Novel format. After recently reading a memoir by Olivia Hussey, the actress who portrayed Juliet in the famous Zeffirelli 1968 film, this play was on my mind quite a lot. So, when I found this Manga version, it grabbed my attention immediately. For anyone who may be thinking the dialogue is 'updated' with more modern dialect, you’d be wrong. This is the same script you’d find in the original play- except there are no stage directions. Instead, those are replaced by images, which works out much better than I’d have imagined. The artwork is spectacular, as is the adaptation. Obviously, a great deal of thought went into how to present this classic in Manga form, and I’d say it came off beautifully. Granted, I’m still a novice at this, but I was pleased with the presentation.I did have a few technical issues, since this one is not in Kindle/ MOBI format. I had to use Adobe Edition, which is a pain, and the scrolling was terrible, especially since, of course it’s back to front. Several times my screen jumped to the end of the book and caused a great deal of frustration.Shakespeare is still difficult to read and adjusting to this format made it an even bigger challenge. It took me a good long while to get through it. (If anyone has a suggestion on how to make this less daunting- please feel free to offer me some suggestions.)However, despite the heaviness of the drama, and the extra effort it required to read the book, I was impressed, and enjoyed reading this classic with the well-drawn illustrations and art work which certainly enriched and enhanced my experience.Despite the disdain of melodrama- I liked all the angst between Romeo and Juliet- but not that sad ending! It still makes a great cautionary tale- even after all these years. 4 stars

The drawings in the manga helped bringing this story alive to me
I have always loved the story about Romeo & Juliet and have during the years seen many adaptions as movies, tv-series, and other works that are inspired by Romeo & Juliet as a theme. Therefore I have always wanted to read the original material, but haven't because Shakespeare is writing an old and hard to read English that makes it a torturous read, and who would like to torture themself? Not me!I read a lot of comics, so when I saw Romeo & Juliet as a manga that stayed true to the original story, I had to try it.The drawings in the manga helped bringing this story alive to me.This manga is a direct adaption and stays very true to the original story. It has the old language, and though I had lines I didn't understand one-to-one, the visual story and gestures of the characters on the page made me understand a whole lot more than if I had read the text only. I can truthfully say that I enjoyed this read!It was an amazing detailed read. It was like seeing a theatre play! The costumes were unique to each character and you could see their personality shine through. It took some time to get used to the language, but when Romeo & Juliets story began unfolding on the pages, I was captured and reached the end much too soon.I think supporting the classics with pictures while staying true to the original is a clever idea. I have already got my eye on some of the other books in this series.
