Funny & smart
My daughter loves this book - she loved it when she was 5, and still loves it, two years later. A very witty book, with some really advanced vocabulary & scientific ideas told in a very funny & engaging way. Not for faint of heart, though - it covers evolution ("Grandpa was an ape"), anatomy ("A poem ugly as a spleen"), parasites ("Mary had a little worm"), etc. Illustration are a perfect match for this "poetry of science".

Wish there was more books like this.
As a science teacher it is always lovely to bring humor and the language arts into the classroom. Wish there was more books like this.

Fantastic find!
Amazingly fun book. My 3 year old memorized all the poems in here because of the audio CD that came with it. Does it still come with it??One day over dinner he started reciting them all to our utter amazement. I knew he was listening to them but didn't know he had them memorized. A year later when "applying" to kindergarten, the teacher asked what his favorite book was that mom read lately. He asked her if she wanted to hear some science poetry....five minutes later she was in stitches. It's funny to hear a child say these poems with their child-like pronunciation of words. Thanks for the CD. It added a lot to the fun of this book.

Very creative, not much of a story
Jon Scieszka's humor and creativity are exceptional. However, our overall feeling after reading this book seemed to be, "Been there, done that, don't need to do it again." The story disappears between the first and last pages. The book is more of a poetry collection. It helps to have the original poetry that these poems are based on indicated at the end of the book. Some are more obvious than others. My grandchildren lost interest before the end of the book. My teenager got much more out of it. Experience with more of the original poems or the scientific concepts help. It was appreciated more by the adults. Definitely worth reading, but if I had to do it again, I'd check it out from the library rather than purchasing it. If a book is going to take up space on my shelf, it needs to be one that we are going to revisit.

FUN book!
This is such a fun book. My daughter loves it, she is 2.5 and enjoys the pictures and the silly poems. She demands this book be read to her every night, yes I know this book is for older children, however my daughter loves it. I bought it for her when she got older because I had the Math version of this when I was in grade school and had a nostalgic moment. As soon as the book came she wanted to read it and has fallen in love, considering getting all of them for her! Can't start too early I guess! I bought this used and it was in great condition, couldn't beat the price either!

Buy this book
I bought this book for my son, who is obsessed with science but not quite as entertained by reading. With this I killed two birds with one stone - got him reading and it's about science. The illustrations are brilliant and go along well with the poems. The poems themselves are written well and tell him different aspects of science so he's learning science while I can show him various types of poetry styles.I'd recommend this for any budding scientists out there

Not worth the cost or your kid’s time.
There is not a single scientific concept that is explained by this book. Every page headlines a facet of science with not even an explanation or follow up sentence to promote a concept. You kid’s time will be wasted in poor poetry. Should get negative star rating.

A bit too complicated.
An pretty nice book, but a bit too complicated. My son enjoyed listening but he didn't have a clue what it was about. He loves science in story format so I was hopeful for this book but we won't be re-reading it.

Surely avoid
This was among one of the best books gor 10 years old children and had awards to its name. Very high rating on amazon dot com. So i bought itAnd i regret it so much. Its just a collection of clumsily written bad rhymes. Its just tukabandi and nothing else. The number of so called poems is also so less.

Fun for the adult
Purchased this as a gift to my biologist wife. She appreciated the humour of the puns and jargon set to popular children's poems and rhymes. The illustrations are well done too and fit the bill.
