I had heard about Joel Karsten’s straw bale gardening method, and purchased this as well as his previous book, “Straw Bale Gardens Complete.” Together, they make a great addition to my gardening book shelf.“Straw Bale Solutions” begins with an overview of the basics of starting your own straw bale garden before moving on to demonstrate exactly how well this method works. Mr. Karsten showcases gardeners from around the world, detailing the special challenges each faced and how straw bales changed they way they planted and grew food. Individuals as well as organizations are featured, each sharing the specific issues faced and detailing how straw bales have changed their lives as well as the lives of others in their communities.The accompanying pictures are equally as impressive as the stories. As someone who has struggled for years with a short growing season along with soil that is composed primarily of clay and rocks, it was exciting to view the successes of others and realize that I have the opportunity to duplicate their accomplishments.This book will educate you, and the stories will inspire you. Five stars.

It took a while to receive this book due to slow mail in DK … but when it finally arrived I'm sooo thrilled to read about gardening in an extraoerdinary way, invented (I think) by Ruth Stout way back in the 1930ties. Looking forward a lot to start gardening with this amazing method !!!

Our school garden is in the book so we have gone on record to say that straw bale gardening works.. Now in our third year, we're having great success with Joel's Karsten's straw bale gardening methods .It's the easiest method of gardening anywhere.

For me straw bale small scale growing represents a perfect medium for my...uh...less than adequate growing experience.Played out perfectly with quite a few pictures. Perfect for the beginner.

We did straw bale gardening this year. There’s no going back. My husband says next year the garden will be 4 times bigger. I said he better invest in a good apron.

Don't buy this book - it's contains details of how straw-bale gardening works in different environments, but no instructions whatsoever. I would urge you to buy Joel Karsten's other book - straw-bale gardens complete. This has great advice on how to develop your straw-bale garden, and how plant.
