Very useful
He's coming really handy with fish that have spines and can poke you. They also help with holding the fish so you can get hooks out.

BEST TOOL TO HAVE WHEN FISHING
I honestly cannot rave about this item enough. My husband and I fish for blue gills, perch, rock bass, and smaller fish like those. These grippers are the absolute best tool to have when we are fishing. Some of the fins on certain types of fish are very sharp and these grippers make it so easy to hold the fish and take the hooks off the fish safely. My 4-year-old daughter even holds fish with these since she is normally scared or grossed out by the fish. I am honestly considering getting a second pair so we have a backup but mainly, so we don't have to share!

Prevents damaging fish
I wanted an alternative to handling a slippery fish while removing a hook. This does the job well. As a long-time fisherman I realize that even the gentlest handling can damage a fish. This keeps it secure, and allows you to dip it in the water while removing the hook. A lot of fish get damaged by being out of the water for too long, and the fisherman can injure the fish by accidentally squeezing it too hard. No way of handling a fish is perfect and guarantees survival if you intend to catch and release but this is better than doing it all by hand. And if a fish is flopping around it's much harder to remove a hook.

It works!
My kids just discovered the joys of fishing and let me just say this thing came in handy as heck. Nobody wants to touch a fish and this thing keeps the slimy little guys off your flesh so you can still pick your nose without smelling fish for the next six months. Would I buy it again? Nope because this thing is built well and seems like it will last a good long while.

Hate catfish slime? You'll love these
If you dislike catfish slime you're going to want one of these. They mostly metal assembly minus the soft hand grips. The edges aren't very sharp so they won't harm the fish. I would suggest tethering these as they don't float. They're not huge but should hold a fish up to 5 lbs, anything past that gets tough to clasp and hold firm. I'm just glad I don't have to keep washing off the catfish slime from my hands or gloves after each release.

Surprised
Have been able to use a few times so far, but only on small catfish, which is great for those since you can keep their barbs away and easily get the hook out. Still waiting to test on a blue gill which is a flatter fish.Make sure to open it before needing as it is a little tough to open up one handed.
