Can't help loving Alistair
Alistair the Alligator is a charming and beautifully illustrated story for younger children and early readers, that also helps teach children about the values of friendship, not always found where you expect it.Mr Porter relates Alistair's story in a simple rhyming style, easy for younger children to remember and learn.Poor Alistair has a big problem for an alligator. He's got no teeth! Whatever he tries to eat just falls right back out of his mouth. Upset and depressed, he vows to eat the next thing he comes across, which happens to be a duck called Dave. Instead of eating Dave, Alistair becomes friends with the little duck, who soon becomes Alistair's chief food source, though not quite in the way you'd expect. It's a lovely story, educational too and I recommend it to anyone with small children. They will love the story, the pictures and most of all, Alistair and his best friend, Dave.

Poor Alistair.
Alistair the Aligator has no teeth. How will he eat? Will he find a friend to help him?I read this story to my 10 month granddaughter but I think she's a bit young. She was interested in the coloured pictures though.Harry Porter is a very talented children's author.

Animal Odd Couples
What an unlikely pairing. An alligator named Alistair and a duck named Dave...forging a bond that adults would be well to emulate. A fairly simple problem here - Alistair has no teeth, so his eating fare is limited, or in Alistair's mind nonexistent! Along waddles Dave who compassionately finds a solution in just the right edible that brings Alistair back to good health and humor. In so few words and pages, Harry Porter has created a story of problem solving and true friendship that adults can feel good about imparting to their kids (and grandkids). Harry has many such animal stories, and is also one of those unique writers who can span the writing bridge from childlike tales to adult suspense fiction. No wonder he is a best-selling author.

A lovely story!
This story is a lovely story for children who live in Florida. Alligators are a natural part of their environment and they are able to refer to Alistair as their own. The illustrations are very vibrant in color and hold a pre-schooler's attention. As a Pre-school Teacher, the story gave me an opportunity to talk about friendship and nutrition, as well as highlighting the rhyming words. You know it is a favorite when they say, "Read it again!".
