If you have tried to buy vanilla essential oil you likely ended up with an oleoresin, absolute, or CO2 extract. There is actually no such thing as a “pure vanilla essential oil.” One form of vanilla is Vanilla Oleoresin Essential Oil. This “oil” is actually not an oil at all, but a semi-solid resin that is extracted from vanilla beans with the use of a solvent. While it looks like essential oil, vanilla oleoresin does not completely mix with carrier oils as other essential oils do. That means you may have trouble mixing it. Another type of vanilla used in natural skin and body care products is Vanilla Absolute. This is one of the most concentrated forms of vanilla and is also extracted with the use of a solvent. This product is naturally very thick but can be easily blended into natural body products. Vanilla Absolute is very expensive, but only small amounts are needed. Another more expensive form marketed as a vanilla essential oil is Vanilla CO2 Extract. This oil has been extracted from vanilla beans using carbon dioxide under high pressure. However, vanilla CO2 is extremely expensive. It is very thick (sometimes even almost solid!), but it blends well in carrier oils and can be diffused (unlike Vanilla Oleoresin). NOW vanilla oil is from this last category. It smells absolutely heavenly. Even though it’s already mixed with jojoba oil, it’s very potent. I actually add some to a larger bottle of jojoba oil for a vanilla scented all-over body oil. It makes me happy every morning when I put it on :) It’s so yummy!! I’ve been buying NOW vanilla brand for a few years and have never had a bad experience.

I just received my order for this.Vanilla oil mixed with Johoba oil I have been shopping with Now products for over twenty years and this is the first time I've been disappointed!!!! This vanilla scent is barely even close to vanilla you can barely smell it. Horriable ... And of course,more upsetting you can't return it. Is best to save your money and get the more expensive pure vanilla unblended. So Disappoint it!!!!

quality of vanilla for a good price

I've purchased two other vanilla essential oils previously that I returned because they didn't smell like vanilla. This one does. I knocked off a star because it had leaked in transit so it was messy and I didn't get a completely full bottle.

As other reviewers have said, this does not have a super strong scent. It is diluted in jojoba oil, however, and smells amazing even though it is faint. I have used it numerous times in homemade body lotions and balms. It smells great with lavender and cedarwood oils especially. You may have to use a little bit more than you're used to if you want a strong scent, but it adds a nice sweetness to any other oils if you just use a little bit. I will definitely continue to buy this!

I always buy "Now" oils. I bought several different brand but I feel like this is the best one so far. I love the smell. Definitely recommend it.
