The Heritage of Oman Hardcover – Illustrated, 10 July 2008

I have travelled extensively in Oman over the past 3 years. I go alone by 4x4 Land Cruiser mainly for the purpose of photography. I sleep out under the stars or at the invitation of local Omanis, Bedu and other inhabitants of this interesting country. I never stay in hotels and always try to meet the local people. I tell you all this to show I have a desire for kowledge of Oman which goes beyond that of most tourists and other visitors. It also adds weight to my opinion when I say this book is a MUST for anyone who wants to gain an intelligent and informed insight into the history, ancient, cultural and natural of Oman. The book starts from the very earliest times, recording the major sites, such as the Bat Beehive Tombs, the lost city of Ubar and the city of Samhuram from where frankincense was shipped, making the local inhabitants the richest in the known World. Modern developments under H.M. Sultan Qaboos are also well covered. The main reason I found this book so good was the 'pitch' of it's approach; not too scholarly as to send you to sleep, and not so simple that you feel it does not satisfy your quest for informed knowledge. The book is a fine hardback of very good quality 'China'? paper. I can really reccommend it! I have visited almost all of the places mentioned in the book and many others besides.
