I'm a 22 year old gal who, on a good day, can tell the difference between a wrench and a ratchet. I am not handy. Having said that, this desk was NOT that difficult to put together. It took me about 3 hours (including gabbing with coworkers in between), I had no help, and I made no mistakes. Other reviewers make it sound like this is the rubik's cube version of a desk. It is NOT that bad!!!! The instruction manual wasn't great, but if you just let yourself take a moment to get used to it and follow the pictures, you'll be fine. It calls for a second person but again, I managed it just fine on my own. I enjoyed putting it together, and the results were gratifying! Does it look like a thousand-dollar desk? No. Does it look nice, though? Yes. very. It is extremely sturdy. Everything fit well together. The color is a very nice, rich, extremely dark brown. It is well represented in the photo. The desk is a little higher than what most are used to, but I love the height. Any regular office chair will do just fine. The key to putting this desk together: USE A POWER DRILL OR POWER SCREWDRIVER. I cannot imagine putting this thing together with a manual screwdriver. It would take forever. Use a drill and you will save yourself a ton of grief and a whole lot of time. Overall, for what it is, I love it. The price is more than reasonable and I am very pleased with the product. Do not be intimidated by other reviews. I even have the desk facing out where everyone who walks through my office door sees what other reviewers call the "ugly" backside. In my opinion, it looks just fine. No need to place against a wall or hide in a corner! Very pleased and would order again!

Directions were easy to follow except for the drawer and file drawer glides. These took several times putting together to get it right because the diagrams were confusing. Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase, it fits perfectly in the corner of my spare bedroom which is used as an office. Plenty of space and a very clean look.

The 2 packages arrived in perfect condition. The contents were well packed with no scratches, damage, or missing parts. Some reviewers claimed that the instructions were inadequate. I found it quite the opposite. There are very few written instructions. But, there are great detailed, illustrated drawings. If you just take one page at a time and complete each simple sub-assembly to match the drawing it will all come together without any problems. Every fastener is in a numbered bag, and every part has a part number identifier decal which matches the drawing. I did the assembly by myself. No help needed. It is almost impossible to make a mistake. Each fastener is shown on the drawings in full size detail. There are a lot of parts so it does take a few hours to assemble. The process is easy, but slow. There are lots of fasteners. You absolutely do not need to glue anything to assemble a very sturdy desk. In my opinion it is best not to use a power screwdriver. The components have a particle board base and I have lots of experience with particle board. Unless you have the torque set pretty low you can easily tear out the particle board making it impossible to install a fastener at that location. A plain old screwdriver will give a much better feel for how much stress the particle board can tolerate. When I assembled the drawer I just set the screws holding the slides in about the center of the hole and there was no need for any adjustments. The drawer fit perfectly. The glass paneled door has Euro style hinges. These can be a little tricky if you have no experience with them. I have used them many times so I was able to quickly adjust the door until it fit the opening exactly right. The finish on all surfaces is more durable than I was expecting. If you just use a little care not to let sharp items be pulled over the surface I think it should be good for long term use. I use a laptop computer so the big desktop cabinet opening is not so useful for me. I wish they had included an extra flat shelf that could be installed in the opening. I intend to make one later and will have to try and match the finish. All things considered I would challenge anyone to find a better quality desk without paying a LOT more money.
