Kahua Tenor Spalted Maple Ukulele (KA-26SM)

I've been playing this “Kahua Tenor Spalted Maple Ukulele (KA-26SM)” for nearly eight months now, so it has definitely been put through its paces by now.The Spalted Maple looks absolutely amazing on the uke that I received. No two models of this ukulele will look the same, such is the nature of the patterning that is found with this wood. So don't assume that you'll receive one that looks exactly like the one that is shown on Amazon, it will look different – maybe only slightly but possibly noticeably as mine is.The Spalted Maple wood covers the whole of the body (and the front of the headstock) and not just the soundboard. This is a laminated ukulele but that is not a problem as the sound from this instrument is superb. There is white binding that complements the wood beautifully and a simple patter of concentric circles around the soundhole that is also repeated next to the binding.The sound is clear and bright (at present I have “Worth CT Clear Tenor Strings -High G” on the instrument which delivers the inherently bright sound with an incredible tone). Intonation is pretty much spot on when checking the fretted 12th fret against 12th fret harmonics. Sustain is long lasting. Tuning is easy and accurate with machine heads that have a very good gear ratio.I lowered the nut and the saddle – though they both could have been kept as they were as this is perhaps personal preference.The neck is wonderful and is finished very neatly.I love playing this ukulele. It is the only Kahua I've ever played but given how good I find this one I would buy another without any problem as I think this is a superb, quality instrument, that looks fantastic and sounds amazing.

Couldn't be more pleased. A well-made, good quality instrument (better quality than I expected for the price -- I got it for £65 but not sure why as the regular price of c. £115 was posted soon after my purchase; maybe I got a returned item? I dunno....). Anyway, my instrument is wonderful to me, good looking in addition to sounding beautiful (especially after adding new, high quality strings: Aquila Red Series Nylgut Tenor high-g set). Not sure you can get a better instrument in this price range. And finding out that the Kahua company is eco-friendly, planting a tree for every one of their instruments sold worldwide, was a nice bonus.
