awesome lightweight backpack
I am super happy with this backpack. It is high-quality and folds up really nicely. At the same time, it’s also obvious it can hold quite a bit weight for what it is. I found it to be comfortable. I’m very happy with it and I highly recommend.

Best lightweight daypack I’ve seen, light weight but good capacity, multiple pockets
I really like the idea of a light weight or ultra lightweight backpack. Years ago, I purchased a light weight backpack (rucksack or day pack) from a well know American Consumer co-op outdoor gear retailer. The backpack was never really used very much. It was too small, and only had a top drawstring opening at the top, one small pocketbook size pocket inside but no outside pockets. This ShySwan backpack is a big improvement over that other pack in many ways: 1. It is a good size with a capacity of 35 liters, 2. The main compartments opens via a large sturdy nylon zipper that runs across the top and down 1/3 of the length of the bag on each side. So, it very easy to open to get stuff. Then inside the main compartment is a vertical pocket with elastic on the top to hold a hydration (drinkable water) bladder in it. There is also a small pocketbook size pocket at the very top. Two cords are sewn into the top of the inner compartment which can be used like shoe strings to tie something in place. The top flap of the backpack has a zippered pocket big enough to hold lunch for a folded rain poncho. Under that is another zipped pocket that has uses a stretchable fabric so that the contents of this pocket can breathe or drip out liquids. There are multiple loops sewen on both side of the outside of the pack. And there is a sewn-in gear strap/loop on each shoulder strap. All the zippers, zipper pulls, D rings and other buckles and hardware are very well made and sturdy. The sewing and workmanship are first rate. Inside the pack there are no exposed seams. All seams are covered over with a hemming materials and locked down with stitching. The fabric used is light yet tough and has a nice look. The lower half of this backpack has a distinct piece of fabric to form the bottom. Which means this is not a formless sack such as my other bag. The fabric in the bottom quarter of the backpack is two layers of fabric, and the entire length of the backpack that will go against your body when worn, has a light woven mesh padding. It’s good quality but the weight and thickness is not such that you’d want to stick a sharp pointy thing in this pack you would definitely feel it. Lastly, each bottom side has a stretchy mesh water bottle pocket. I’m very happy with this pack.

useful for emergencies or short time periods
I tested this backpack out by wearing for 5 days straight at a conference with a lot of walking. This was a mistake. The bag is way too lightweight for heavy usage - either "heavy" with items or "heavy" with the amount of time. It just doesn't have any real padding or support, so my back and shoulders were profoundly unhappy with me every day. I ultimately decided to still give it a 4-star rating because lightweight packs like these really aren't designed for this type of use. They are for stowing away "just in case" you need to carry extra stuff or maybe just need to stow something for a quick trip. From that perspective, the backpack packs up easily into a small space. When unpacked, it does have an excellent variety of different packets and pockets to divvy up your stuff into. Just don't bring it with you on a trip thinking that you'll walk around wearing it all day - you'll regret it.

got this for my biking outings since sometimes i need a little extra space. This is such a nice bag that is packable when not needed as well. Good number of compartments, great loops for caribiners as well.Overall very pleased with this bag

It's been on a few surprise trips with us!
This bag is dope - if you're reading this and don't already have a packable travel backpack... then you need to get one. It compacts into itself and turns into its own little tiny carrying bag, which makes it easy to stash in your car or larger pack in the event you need a backpack for whatever. In our experience, it's come with us fishing, hiking, and vacation, and the ability to just pull it out of your pants pocket or purse has come in handy so many times I don't even know why it took us this long to get one. Some of the specific things I like about the "ShySwan" bag - there's a lot of adjustment options with the straps for the shoulders, as well as compression straps on the outside of the bag. These straps can get in the way sometimes, but they do a really good job of holding awkward items in place. Since this bag is so light there is not a lot of structure to help support awkward loads so be sure to use it.It's also got water bottle pockets which were able to fit our 1L Nalgene bottles just fine. The only negative thing I have to say about it is the little metal "ShySwan" logo bar is in the dumbest spot possible, and I'm kind of worried that it's going to end up poking a hole in itself.

Nice small packable daypack
This is a nice small daypack that I can put in my larger multi-day pack on a bigger trip, and then just take this out for the day. Good zippers and nice pocket layout.
