Aerosmith ~ Permanent Vacation

The second coming
Driving Aerosmith into their second career this hard rock thirst quencher spurts out a couple of instant classics of the genre. Rag Doll and Dude (Looks Like A Lady) are pretty much spot on the way they encapsulate the musical definition of a good time. Elsewhere we get the band really entertaining their love of the blues - a love they took to it's logical conclusion approximately 20 years later with Honkin' On Bobo. The band also dishes up some ballads and while that probably makes many fans cringe as they think of the heritage ruining ballads of the 90's lets be fair about it, Angel from this album may stink but Tyler does have a great plaintive tone to his voice and not all ballads are evil. The rest of the band sound on song too and the production is pretty much perfect for the time and the genre. Tunes can breath and the simple knob job allows the music to shine through. I have to subtract a star as not all of this hits the spot such as some of the lengthier blues/weird stuff sections in songs like the title track. Also the cover of The Beatles I'm Down is neither great nor a great choice. Still beats U2's Helter Skelter! And what's goin' on with the final track `The Movie'? But these issues are forgivable given the song writing and musical talents of the band. And as stated above, this thing hatched at least two juke box necessities. So four stars IMHO.

They're Baaack in the Saddle Again
Though this album received very little radio air time, it is a "must have" for any true Aerosmith fan. As usual Steven Tyler tickles the mind with some unbelievably deep "words"- instrumentally excellent, this is a gem for Aerosmith fans. The more you listen, the more you hear. I think they were all hovering in or near sobriety, and after the extremes they lived, it amazes me they survived- much less can still write such thought provoking, excellent rock-n-roll. To ride the razors edge and count the eyes of a dragon fly...guaranteed to entertain. Buy this CD, you won't be sorry!

Very happy!
Arrived well on time and in the shape described by the seller. Worked fine in my CD player. It plays a bit quiet, but that's more a reflection on the manufacturer than the seller.

Best of the second generation Aerosmith albums
Loved it for years, the album that touched of the revival of the band and quality of their music. Doing it with one of their best albums is a great way (and back then it was an album!).

Post Disco R&R.
Having come out late in the 80's we were never sure what to expect, but with Aerosmith you would have some idea. Permanent Vacation anyone?

Permanent Vacation
With hindsight, and set against all their other work, this is a very good 'smiths album. Not their best at all, but even their merely "good" is better than just about anyone else in their field. Some cracking classic tracks, but suffers from trying to add in a couple that have no business being there, in an attempt to show off versatility. Somewhat ironically, the title track is about the worst. Not necessary, lads. Just do what you do better than anyone else, with a blues track and a good ballad thrown in. That's a-plenty!

Good album
This is a Aerosmith doing what Aerosmith do best - good raw rock 'n' roll with energetic beats, catchy riffs and cheeky lyrics - but also with a few weak tracks. The weak tracks aren't *that* bad - I wouldn't describe them as "fillers" - they're just not quite up to the mark. But there's plenty of good tracks to make up for it. It kicks off with "Heart's Done Time", a good riffy song to start off. "Magic Touch" keeps the energy going, as does "Rag Doll", a stomping number (similar tempo/beat to "Love in an Elevator"). "Simoriah" is slightly more run-of-the-mill but not bad. "Dude" brings the energy levels back up with that guitar/keyboard-brass wall of sound and catchy melody. Next a couple of great tracks to lift the album into a higher zone - "St. John" is a great bluesy track; "Hangman Jury" the longest track on the album, both demonstrate mature and well developed song writing. Now, there are a few weak tracks: "Girl Keeps Coming Apart" is not *that* bad but it's just not as good as the others. "Angel" is the cigarette lighters in the air ballad if you're into that sort of thing, again not bad but not brilliant. "Permanent Vacation" again isn't quite up to the mark. "I'm Down" *is* great, surprisingly faithful to the original Beatle's version, even keeping the same guitar solo melody. Bearing in mind McCartney sang this song brilliantly, Tyler doesn't let the song down at all with his skillfull vocals. "The Movie" is quite a simple, repetative instrumental, kind of a jam (but highly polished), but I don't feel offers any value to the experience, kind of pointless really. There are 12 tracks all together, so even with the weak tracks there are plenty of great songs to make it worth your money.

Aerosmith without Joe Perry is like Rolling Stones without Keith Richards & Guns n Roses ...
I remember having this album on LP first & Joe Perry was back in the band for this album, Aerosmith without Joe Perry is like Rolling Stones without Keith Richards & Guns n Roses without Slash, This album is an excellent return to form for Aerosmith with bigger albums to follow

Definitive Areosmith
Simply classic. One of the best, if not simply the best Aerosmith record.

Permenant Vacation appears to be exactly that on a Permenantly on Vacation...except on a few areas when they absolutely shine..
Normally I would be writing in 5 full stars for this disc simply because it was created by Aerosmith...however this is only worth three. there is some good material on this disc however the good songs are drowning in amongst the weak and poorly produced material that also resides on this disc...unless you get this at a bargain basement price ( as i did ) I would pass on it.
