Solid Multi-WAN Router for Backup Connections!

This TP-Link Festa FR205 router provides reliable multi-WAN functionality. Connecting it to the online portal unlocks its full potential, making configuration straightforward. The ability to configure multiple upstreams allows for effective load balancing, providing a cost-effective backup solution. It functions well as a basic load balancer for redundant connections. The setup process is relatively simple, and the cloud management interface is user-friendly. The robust metal casing and fanless design are a plus. For small businesses or users needing reliable backup connectivity, this router is a good option.

Would NOT recommend

Doesn't appear to support VPN and total lack of customer support in setup and or use.Plugged into my Spectrum cable modem, configured with a computer via direct connect ethernet, setup TP account and configured switch setting.Would NOT allow advanced options, ie. VPN load.Called customer support and they DO NOT handle this unit, only business side does. Arranged for a call back over a week ago with no contact since.Manual for detailed setup not available in US, can only be found on secondary market. It flat out did not work as advertised.

Very slow boot, over 3 min

Needed a lightweight non-wireless router, this did fit the bill and did work, however boot time was very slow, Other equipment in my mobile rack depends on router, the slow boot time made it impractical even with a sequencer.

Solid Performance with Room for Improvement

The TP-Link Festa FR205 is a solid router that impresses with its ease of installation and overall performance. Setting it up was straightforward: I connected it to my network, logged in to create a user and password, and enabled the "Managed by Cloud" option. The whole process was seamless and user-friendly.With a 950Mb/950Mb internet connection, Iโ€™m able to achieve those speeds reliably with this router, which is a huge plus. However, one of the biggest drawbacks is the reboot timeโ€”it takes up to three minutes to reboot, which is quite lengthy for a router in this category. The cloud interface is another strong point. Itโ€™s easy to manage, and I have two access points (APs) along with this router configured within it. However, the cloud app isnโ€™t without its limitations. It lacks some advanced options, which may be a drawback for more tech-savvy users. Additionally, Iโ€™ve encountered an issue where Iโ€™m unable to see wired devices connected to the router, even though they receive an IP address from the DHCP server.A major downside, and a reason why Iโ€™m considering giving this router a fourโ€”maybe even a three-star ratingโ€”is the lack of an easy way to contact support through the cloud interface. You would expect a simple option for sending issues or feedback, but itโ€™s noticeably absent.Despite these issues, the TP-Link Festa FR205 is still a good router, especially given its price point. Iโ€™m yet to explore the VPN options and other advanced features, but so far, with over 50 devices connected, I havenโ€™t experienced any major issues. I would love to see TP-Link enhance the support options and add more advanced features in the cloud interface (even with the "Advanced Menu" enabled, itโ€™s still somewhat limited). In summary, if you're looking for a router with strong performance and ease of use at a reasonable price, the TP-Link Festa FR205 is a solid choice. Just be prepared for some minor inconveniences and limitations in the cloud interface.

Awesome for what I needed it for!

I had to get this to setup a 1 gig data send and receive connection for my gaming PC. It did exactly what it needed to do by enabling me to have individual send and receive lines.

solid hardware firmware is crippled, slow, and lacks useful functionality.

The router itself is solid for hardware. Metal construction, nice and robust feel. It seems fast enough to handle multiple concurrent GB lan lines and a 300k fiber line that I have to test it, so the performance is there. So I added on a star for that. The firmware that runs it is a serious letdown however. Ive read these guys have a pro model (thats now about the same cost) that is better in this regard. There are 2 functions you can run without connecting to the cloud. Basically checking the port assignments. You can go check out their software emulator on their site, and I would encourage you to do so before buying. To get more out of it you're required to connect it to the cloud. There you create a login.. but thats just a rip of the their business software and still completely oriented towards that. Seems like that would be good but basically it just means their cloud is ready for you to have a fleet of MANY routers/switches/etc to control centrally, and is largely useless for home networking or anything thats not a giant office. The software is needlessly complex and SLOW. Every task has to go to the cloud, check with the home unit, then come back to your browser so it takes literally 5 seconds for change to populate. So minus several stars for that.Only saving grace.. its compatible with openWRT. you can use the procedure for the er605 .. and replace the firmware with responsive, functional firmware that really should have been on there from the start. So think of getting the Omada variant or plan on openWRT if you want any decent experience. I actually put OpenWRT on there without backiing up the OEM firmware because it was so bad I was going to buy a different router if that didnt work.

It worked

It worked fine right off the bat and still is. What else to say ?

Makes 2 ISP network less stable than regular 1 ISP

When backup internet goes down whole internet connection (dns resolution) becomes flaky and half of sites do not load on the latest firmware. Firmware 1.0.0 worked better but is insecure. I.e. it makes two WAN/ISP network less stable than 1 ISP. To set up the two WAN ports I spent way too much time for the seemingly simple task. Chrome's password manager is not able to save admin's password and application on phone requires cloud services enabled, it cannot connect to local router directly.
