My cat won’t touch this stuff. He smells it and walks away - would rather starve than eat it. Amazon and seller don’t offer returns on it either so you’re taking a risk of buying. Wouldn’t buy again 🙃

Edit: I have edited my entire review and have continued to feed this batch to my cat. She wants it whether or not pieces are hard. LOL I have changed this review to reflect better outcome. Part of original review: This recent batch of cat food didn't look right, nor was it soft enough to even separate after mixing with water! All the pieces were rock-hard and discolored - even in the water. Freeze-dried cat food (I thought) should be easy to separate, especially once mixed with water. I could not break it apart unless I really worked at it. BUT, My cat still ate it and liked it. I think the food overall is pretty good. When it comes to food purchases, sometimes you just get a weird batch. I would check with this company about the texture if you’re concerned.

After one of my cats was diagnosed with struvite crystals, and the vet gave me an extremely expensive bag of corn and by-products to help her problem, I refused the food and resolved to find something better. It took forever to get my cats off of corn based food, and I refused to go back! I spent time reading and looking into making my own raw cat food. In Dr. Elizabeth Hodkins, DVM book, YOUR CAT, was of great interest to me. She used frozen raw food for her cats. There you go!! The use of raw food worked for me especially when I discovered that I didn't have to make it!! So, I settled on freeze dried and frozen. That gave me freedom to reconstitute, or to open the frozen product and serve. Through the Primal website I found a local vet that carries the Primal Pronto frozen food, at approx $7 per pound. Still pricey, but the cats love it. I reconstitute the freeze dried with goats milk, not water. My cats are really eager to eat this mixture, which I allow to sit until the moisture is absorbed, about 15 min. So the upshot is that the cats are all doing great, including the kitty girl with struvite. Moisture and good food appear to have made the difference for her. I tend to alternate the foods from day to day: freeze dried frozen. Everyone LOVES the chicken & salmon formulas, the turkey not so much. Yes, it is more expensive, but they are easily worth the $$ in the joy, companionship and unconditional love that they provide. And yes, I do offer dry kibble, but not much, should one of them decide they are starving to death...Nature's Variety Instinct, chicken formula. The amount of dry food eaten during the day has really dropped off as the cats have become used to the raw food. We have been using the products for two months. So far so good! Fast Forward 3 years! Shortly after the previous review, changed vets and began making my own catfood. Cats are doing wonderfully. Problems with struvite crystals absolutely a thing of the past. Kitty with pancreatitis is doing wonderfully. Still keep this product on hand all the time and use as a treat as well as back up for those days I forget to thaw a bag of frozen food. The cats enjoy the change and it is great to have food on hand to serve almost immediately! My vet totally approves of their diet, a huge WIN for everyone concerned.

I've been wanting to feed my cats raw food for a while, but I didn't want to deal with the mess and hassle. When I heard about dry raw food it sounded like the possible answer to my problem, and it was! I feed my cats dry food mainly for the convenience, especially for when we go away. But I know there are health benefits to feeding cats wet food and raw food, so now I use one brick of this for each cat daily as a "treat" and they absolutely love it! Almost seems like they instinctively know it's good for them. They literally lick the bowls clean. I lost my last two cats to kidney disease (they did lead long and happy lives though), and I recently read that kidney disease is common in cats that eat only dry food throughout their lifetime. Between feeding my cats better dry food (Solid Gold, not that Science Diet crap my other poor cats ate) and supplementing with this raw wet food I'm hoping my current little buddies will fare even better. This Primal food is my first experience with raw food and it's been really great. It's so easy to just break up one brick in each bowl and mix with 1.5 tablespoons of filtered water each (the label recommends 1 tbsp per brick but I sneak in an extra half and find it still works fine, and they get even more liquids in their systems). One bag lasted exactly a month feeding my two cats this way in case that helps gauge how much food is in the 14 oz. bag (you'd probably use about two bags a month per cat if this was their primary food source, so about two bucks a day -- still not too bad considering). Fifteen bucks a month per cat so I can make sure my cats are getting at least some super nutritious food every day in a form that's convenient to use seems very worth it to me. And if it helps to possibly prevent costly vet bills and health issues in the future so much the better. Hope this helps.
