Get Out of That Pit: Straight Talk about God's Deliverance

Excellent Read
Have you ever found yourself in a pit? Literally or figuratively; I suppose both are possible. I've never been in a literal pit, unless you count the time I backed Doug's truck into a ditch.... But that's a whole different post!I have been in my share of emotional pits. We're not just talking down in the dumps, feeling sorry for myself pits. We're talking hopelessly, depressingly STUCK with no idea how to get out. Sometimes I don't know how I even got there, let alone how to get out.Beth Moore is a Bible teacher and author of many books (really good ones at that!). I just re-read her book "Get out of that Pit" which was re-released for its 10th anniversary. I was reminded that there are are several ways to know that you're not just stuck in a rut, but that you are IN a pit.Do you feel stuck? Just plain ol' stuck. Like you just can't get motivated? Then you might be in a pit. If you've ever been in a mud-hole or even a deep pile of snow, you KNOW what it's like to be stuck. I have literally pulled off a shoe walking through the mud. I'm sure as a kid I've lost many a boot to Michigan winters as well!Do you feel like you've lost your vision? You know, "the thing" that used to get you out of bed every morning? Well, you might be in a pit.So how did you and I get into our pits? Beth Moore tells us there are 3 ways to get into our pits:First of all, you can get thrown in. Think of Joseph in the Bible. His brothers threw him into a literal pit and left him for dead! How can you or I get thrown in? Think of abuse as a child. Or maybe being abandoned by a spouse, leaving you a single parent. Maybe, like me, you've been diagnosed with an incurable disease.Secondly, you can slide into a pit. Maybe you never really meant for that "friendship" with the opposite sex to go there...it was supposed to be just harmless flirting.Third, you can jump right into your pit, Yup. Feet first, head first, whichever, you just jump. Think of David in the Bible. He saw Bathsheba, he lusted after her, and he slept with her, even thought he KNEW she was married. Then he had her husband murdered. Pretty big pit there if you ask me. Maybe you've never had an affair or killed anyone. Maybe you have; who am I to judge? You may also be a recovering addict; 10 years sober. And you decide to have just one drink to celebrate. To prove to yourself that you can do it. The next thing you know you're totally wasted and have just become a pit-dweller.But just like most stories in the Bible, there is HOPE! Our God will not leave us in the pit if we ask for help."I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry.He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet upon a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord." Psalm 40:1-3Beloved, God loves you SO much He will do and/or allow *anything*, and I mean ANYTHING to get your attention, and get you back on the road to Him. He loves us with a love difficult to understand. And God does not want us living in a pit. But we have to ask for His help. Are you in a pit? Do you want out? Beth Moore gives us the way out in her book "Get out of that Pit". The answer is really quite simple: Cry out to God. Look back at the passage of Scripture... God will hear your cry! From the back cover: "It is Beth's stirring message of the sheer hope, utter deliverance...and complete and glorious freedom of God."I received this book free in exchange for my fair and unbiased review.

There's no need to stay in that pit.
Thomas Nelson just did a 10th anniversary print of Beth Moore's Get Out of That Pit. While I don't follow Moore closely, I have always enjoyed the snippets of talks or studies that I have come across in the past.In the pages of Get Out of That Pit, Moore shares from her own personal journey and from studying Scripture about what a pit is, how we find ourselves in them, and how to get out. As someone else who is pretty familiar with the pits and found herself pit dwelling by all three ways described in the book, I found her words encouraging and practical. No matter how we ended up in the pit, we do NOT have to stay there. That is good news!!The book is easy to follow and sprinkled with humor. The chapters are a manageable size and not overwhelming, and at the back of the book some daily Scripture prayers are offered if you need a little boost or springboard for figuring out what or how to pray. There are also reflection and application questions for each chapter, which is perfect for personal study or if you want to do a group study.A few times in the book the humor felt a little forced to me, but overall I enjoyed Get Out of That Pit and think it would make a great book to tackle in a small group.Disclaimer: I was provided a free copy of Get Out of That Pit in return for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed here are my own.

Beth Moore Is A Blessing!!!
I sometimes watch Beth Moore on Life Today with the Robisons. She speaks about 15 minutes and is a very nice and honest person. I received this book from TBN ministries after sending in a donation. I don't really expect anything in return, but they send out gifts and lately it has been books, which I really don't want because I mainly read the Bible and I don't like small print on slightly yellowish paper. It is bad for my eyes, even with glasses on. Also, I only like certain writers like Beth and don't read books that much. And, if I want info about the Bible, I go straight to the source where men were inspired by God to write it. It is not man's enterpretation, except for all these new ones other than KJV. So, I decided to search the book on Amazon and downloaded it to Kindle App for $9.99. Now I can increase the font and the app remembers where I left off! Buy the book because it is very interesting!!! UPDATE: I DELETED KINDLE AND BOUGHT THIS BOOK AGAIN FROM IBOOKS. PAGES WERE HARD TO TURN ON KINDLE. INCREASING FONT, ETC. IS EASIER ON IBOOKS. ALSO, ON IBOOKS, IT TELLS YOU HOW MANY PAGES ARE LEFT IN CHAPTER. AND, UNLIKE KINDLE, WITH THE INCREASE IN FONT SIZE, SOME WORDS ARE NOT SPREAD FAR APART, WHICH SEEMED TO BE A BIG FLAW WITH KINDLE.

my favorite being "Get Out of That Pit"
Beth Moore has written many iconic books that have transformed lives, my favorite being "Get Out of That Pit". This book is actually ten years old, so it got a new cover! I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review, all opinions are mine.I think the reason why I love this book is that it's thorough and straightforward. Beth talks about all types of pets, ones we put ourselves in and ones that others put us in. Some of the pits she mentions are ones we might not even know we're in. The book is based on Psalm 40, where the author speaks of being lifted out of a pit and being placed on a rock. Beth gives you solid advice for putting the past behind you and getting to that great, joyful place in life again. She bases everything on Scripture, so you'll find plenty of verses to aid you in your study. Beth's style of writing includes comedic relief and I love all the girly details she includes. I think this book is a wonderful resource for anyone struggling to get out of a pit or who is curious to see if they have something hindering their life. You'll gain so much inspiration from this book. The presence of God is all over the pages!

It's a deep book and it would help if you read it with someone else who is going through or has gone through the same or similar experience as you. I bought 2 one to pass on to friends who I know may be struggling like me too.
