Simply Brilliant
Being a book collecting enthusiast I have to say that this book is perfect! Unlike other paperback editions you get on Amazon that have some defect or flaw in them most of the time, this one is all about the finishing. The binding is really good & it has a really great finish to it. It's as good as an omnibus edition & getting it at ₹629 might have been the greatest deal you can ever get. The introduction to the book itself is mind-blowing. The quality of the pages is really good & the print is beyond perfect. This is my third book from Everyman's Library & if my wallet permits I'll be getting their entire collection (they are a bit expensive). When it comes to the matter inside, I don't think I need to say much about that; Camus might have been one of the greatest philosophers of the modern era.

Smooth delivery, Amazing Purchase. Camus is love.
"You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life." - Albert Camus Finally my journey begins. And it began already with a bang when I first started reading The Stranger/The Outsider and that's when I knew what I'm in for. Received in very good condition. Original Everyman's Library. Binding is very strong. Hardcore with no scratch. The Cover Jacket is just fascinating and beautiful. The page quality is superb, thick and good to eyes. Font size is wonderful. Translation is easy. Beautiful purchase.

Everyman's library books are awesome but Amazon isn't!!
10⭐for Everyman's library -1⭐ for Amazon Although the book I received was delivered on time and I was literally on heels waiting for it to come...but Amazon as always couldn't handle the packaging properly. The envelope in which it came was torn. I was horrified to see my book inside it...luckily it was only slightly dented on the cover jacket and somewhat dirty. Returning a book is a hassle for Amazon so not gonna do that...learnt my lesson way too long ago. Also because the book build quality is so great that it protected itself from many mishandlings done by Amazon. #amazonsuckatpacakaging #amazondoesntcare

Delight for all Camus enthusiasts.
Arrived in perfect condition. Gorgeous jacket photography cover with a beautiful color scheme. Not only a delight to read but also to look at on the shelf. Printing on clear white pages is worth the bucks, attached is a gold coloured lace bookmark. And overall, hardcover at this price for Camus is really a steal. Go for it, without hesitation.

THE PLAGUE I am only reading this book now, at age 65, because I was choked nearly to death with "The Stranger" in my merry school-days. When I was assigned to read it in French III (high-school) it was moderately interesting. But when I had to read it AGAIN in French IV the next year, I figured that was enough. No such luck! I was assigned the same book in college French, twice! By that time, I had my own view of Meursault: a man completely without affect, and a killer. But I kept seeing rave reviews of "The Plague,' and finally picked it up in the excellent Everyman's Library edition: The Plague, The Fall, Exile and the Kingdom, and Selected Essays (Everyman's Library) . And I got a huge surprise. This is certainly one of the best novels of the 20th century: it is extremely well-written, and packed with interesting characters and incidents, all under the over-arching suspense of Oran under the plague, especially after Oran is placed under quarantine and nobody is allowed to leave. A situation like this is ideal for observing the human character under enormous stress, and this was the biggest surprise for me: Camus' penetrating psychological insights, which always rang true. For example, a doctor separated from his wife by the quarantine would actually spend most of the day thinking of her, rather than the deadly threat he dealt with every day. A journalist trapped in Oran decides to escape to join his wife in Paris: "I don't think I was brought into this world to write newspaper articles, but I may have been brought into this world to live with a woman." An attempted suicide (Cottard) suddenly becomes the most cheerful man in town. Why? This is a gripping novel. You probably suspect that quite a bit of it is grisly; it's impossible to write about plague epidemics from the point of view of a doctor without describing the horrific sufferings of the victims. But above it all ring out loud and clear Camus' views of the modern philosophical dilemmas. He includes some sermons from a Catholic priest, and other points of view, but in the end his main conclusion comes from Dr. Rieux, who simply states that the self-evident shines with its own blazing truth, and the obvious thing is for everyone to pull together before the plague kills half the people in Oran. Reading this magnificent novel immediately put Camus (for me) among the two greatest French novelists of the last century, along with Marcel Proust. Note: if you read French, Amazon sells the original version ( La peste (table des matières hyperliée) (French Edition) for an excellent price.

To pick up so much of ‘Bert’s work for so little is, quite frankly; superb. I’m a little late to the ‘World of Camus’, but I’m sure making up for it as quickly as I can. I’m alternating between ‘Hadot’ and ‘Camus’ as well as my usual fiction, so it’s a most enjoyable time indeed.

It is very rewarding to have all these essays and stories in on collection. Especially in this year of COVID The Plague resonates. The author's concept of Absurdity is valuable in achieving a perspective on the profound social losses we have all sustained. I am struck again by his quality of writing, and insights into the human psyche. The book itself is up to Everman's standard. The binding and type and layout are very well done and the Preface is helpful.
