We just got back from our 8-day Wisconsin trip and honestly, this roof bag was a lifesaver. We threw in all the big, soft stuff -our huge foldable camping tents, foldable chairs, sleeping bags, pillows, piles of clothes, and somehow it all fit. I honestly thought it might start sliding around or pop open, but nope. It stayed put the whole trip like it had a mind of its own. Setup was super simple. The anti-slip mat and door hooks made it easy to get it on, even without a roof rack. Of course, I peeked a couple of times at our stops, just to make sure, but everything stayed totally sturdy. Even with rain and road spray, nothing got inside. The bag itself feels solid, the zippers are smooth and strong, and the included combination lock gave some extra peace of mind. Honestly, it was like having a magic bag on top of the car- all our camping gear just disappeared in there, squishing and folding itself perfectly. We’d always rented the hard plastic ones from friends before because we never had room to store one. Those worked okay, but foldable stuff like tents and chairs is just a nightmare in a rigid box, you can never make it fit neatly. Soft bags are just easier for this kind of gear. Blankets, pillows, and clothes don’t care either way, but the soft bag lets you shove, squish, and arrange everything without stress. Plus, the plastic boxes cost 5 times more if you were to buy one yourself. This soft bag is totally different - easy to remove, fold up, and shove into the storage bag. Barely takes up any space, no wrestling with a box, no weird garage issues. The space it freed up inside the car was amazing. Normally, half the backseat would be buried under gear, but this time it was wide open. Everyone could sit comfortably, relax, and actually enjoy the ride. By the end of the trip, I was seriously impressed. Packing was easier, driving was less stressful, and unloading didn’t feel like a chore. A soft-sided roof cargo bag is appealing primarily because of the price, and this one ultimately worked for our trip—but only after we understood and adapted to its limitations. First, it is essentially a large bag sitting on top of your car. If it is not fairly full, it will flap in the wind, which is both noisy and likely to accelerate wear on the material. This bag is very large, and unless you are traveling with a lot of gear, it’s surprisingly hard to fill completely. Second, the bag can be secured either to an existing roof rack or to anchor points inside the car, with the straps routed through the door openings. We used the interior-anchor method. Fortunately, our car has grab handles above each door, which made this workable. Third, strap placement is critical. The hooks must clear the door frame cleanly, which means the bag has to be perfectly centered on the roof. Even slight misalignment can interfere with closing the doors properly. Because we didn’t fill the bag, we ended up buying additional straps to keep it tight against the roof. You cannot leave this type of bag on your car when it’s empty, so at each hotel stop we had to unload it completely, carry it through the lobby, and find space for it in our room. In the end, it did what we needed it to do, but it was neither elegant nor easy to manage. A smaller bag would have been sufficient for our needs and likely easier to use. Would it have been worth spending an extra $200 on a hard-shell carrier? For occasional use, probably not. But if you plan to use a roof carrier frequently, a hard-shell option may be worth the added cost for convenience and durability.

Put it to use on a family trip right away and it worked out perfectly. It was easy to install on my Ford Expedition roof rack and it held strong even as we passed a storm with high winds. And, thankfully the bag was water tight and the rain did not enter the bag. This Car Roof Bag is made of durable, strong and quality materials.
