Enlightening Information
The Information is this book will OPEN anyones eyes...Dr. Sears gives information most Doctors don't understand-and sometimes dont want to understand-because they are to conditioned to think otherwise-...Bottom line is traditional healthcare...and traditional "Heart care" and exercise- fall short ...WHY ?...read this book...The Information (Research) in this book does NOT come from Dr. Sears..he is simply writing about it (Thankfully)--Although -he does offer info on how this research benefits his patients..this information and research has been around for decades,...DECADES people !...The real question is not "Does this information work "..but--"Why don't MORE doctors know about this ??" ...Harvard School of medicine has KNOWN about this information for years..and has research to PROVE it....Dr. Sears has just written a book about it..and tells you WHY it works with his patients...The Supplements are nutritional supplements(Added to diet)...He explains what is most important to take and WHY...Is he anti-Drug ? NO !!..he Knows drugs can and do save lives...But when a person's body is out of Crisis..How do they go about rebuilding it ?...and WHY ...Dr. Sears is against the abuse of Pharma Drugs...which is all to common in our Healthcare System...The information in this book is USED in other countries and has been FOR YEARS !( ex. Coq10 Ubiquinol form)..For Heart ENERGY...and healthy organs etc....None of the supplements have side effects..except a better feeling body...I have recommended this book to people, friends and family that have had heart issues, health issues,..or are just looking to get more fit and healthy....and everyone is happily surprised to find they feel better,..if not great- in a short amount of time... The information in this book..Must read for ANYONE- especially those who HAVE tried everything,..those looking for another way--and those KNOWING there "Has to be another way"...Thankfully someone has written about it.

Loved this book! Really solid advice!
Heart issues run in my family so I am very interested in books on the subject. The author is a true authority on the subject and I have implemented many of his suggestions and feel I have a good understanding how I can increase my chances of not being a young heart attack victim. Its in my genes. But as they say, genes load the gun and lifestyle pulls the trigger!

A workout alternative, with major caveats...
For some time I suspected that interval training was the way to go, such as intensive grappling, judo, strength training and other activities requiring a lot of muscle output (described as 'anaerobic' but in reality not so). The "PACE' protocol described in this book is not a new idea, it seems to have borrowed from the "Tabata protocol" or HIT (high intensity training). The author's use of percentage output or effort is very hard to quantify. It is better to use a pace such as "50% as hard as you dare" or 75% or as I do in the Tabata spin bike workout, "as hard as you dare". This consists of 20 seconds of all out pedaling followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated for 8 cycles for a total of 4 minutes. Add one minute of steady-state warmup and cooldown at the beginning and end, respectively. See below for a bit more detail. It is my experience now in my late 50's that strength-training is essential. A weekly routine of 2 strength sessions (either HIT or SuperSlow protocol, sometimes with weights for squats or kettelbells but mostly bodyweight for all other exercises)results in a tremendous cardio-respiratory and muscular work output. Coupled with 2 days of Tabata (spin bike: 1 minute warmup, 20 seconds "as hard as I dare" followed by 10 seconds' rest, repeated 8 times, followed by 1 minute cooldown) keeps me very fit.In closing, stay away from the author's advice of doing the Val Salva technique during weight lifting; this requires a held breath during an effort phase of an exercise, dangerously increasing blood pressure which could cause a stroke or worse. Never hold your breath while weight lifting. For the most part, stay away from the Dr Sears marketing machine (which has very mediocre customer service anyway).NOTE: I HAVE NOT AUTHORIZED ANYONE TO QUOTE MY REVIEW OF THIS BOOK AS AN ENDORSEMENT OF SAID BOOK, AND NO ONE HAS MY PERMISSION TO QUOTE ME AS AN ENDORSEMENT OF THIS BOOK OR OF PACE IN ANY WAY OR FORM, NOR AM I OFFERING MEDICAL ADVICE!!!

Easy to read book with interesting ideas
The Doctor's Heart Cure, Beyond the Modern Myths of Diet and Exercise: The Clinically-Proven Plan of Breakthrough Health Secrets That Helps You Build a Powerful, Disease-Free Heart I've enjoyed reading this book. It's introduced ideas I'm not sure science supports (such as the PACE program being better than endurance activities), but it's worth looking into further and a great alternative fitness plan.If I remember right, there were some comments about carbs I'm not 100% on board with, but overall the material is "right on the money" and a great guide to achieve heart health.

I couldn't put this book down - fantastic stuff!
If you have a weight problem, high blood pressure, high cholestral, diabetes, heart problems or a high probablity of getting either of these conditions this is a MUST read book. It is written in easy to understand language, covers all the things your doctor doesn't tell you and gives you clear strategies to over come the health challenges mentioned above. It is very practical, with clear summaries and action steps. It has a focus on a high protein diet, low carbs and the use of selected food types and nutritional supplements and the PACE exercise program to achieve outstanding outcomes. Results are all clinically proven.Frankly, I consider this book a must read for everyone and I have immediately adopted the strategies and recommndations in this book.Highly recommended.

Low-fat diets kill
The late Robert Atkins defined cognitive dissonance as "The inability to believe what you've been programmed not to believe". He referred, of course, to low-fat diets, but this disbelief should also apply to exercise. In my opinion, low-fat diets are the biggest nutritional disaster of the 20th century, & that's where they should stay, in the 20th century. High carbohydrate diets are not the solution to obesity & heart disease, they are the cause. The problems of obesity & heart disease are not helped by low-intensity, long duration exercise either. The body rapidly responds to the fat burned for fuel in prolonged exercise - by replacing it. The recommendation to do 30-40 minutes moderate intensity exercise 3 times a week is fundamentally flawed as it encourages heart & lungs to downsize to improve efficiency. This robs the cardiovascular system of reserve capacity for real emergencies such as traumatic illness, accidents, emotional shock etc.Dr Sears proposes that we should eat the same types of food, & in the same proportions of fat, protein & carbohydrate as our paleolithic hunter-gatherer ancestors, & also exercise in the same way. He has devised an interval training plan called PACE, optimised for fat loss & to increase reserve capacity in the heart & lungs. Short bursts of intense exercise, followed by a recovery period consumes blood glucose & glycogen; the body compensates by storing less fat because it's not needed. The sick & overweight have not benefitted from low-fat diets. Their health as well as their wallets have been ripped off. The people who have profitted are the ones that sell the diets; food manufacturere who sell highly-processed low-fat foods, & drug companies. The principal beneficiaries of low-to-moderate intensity exercises have been gyms.Dr Sears gives potocols not only for PACE workouts, but also for bodyweight exercises. He describes the effects & side effects of commonly-prescribed heart drugs & nutritional deficencies that they cause. He mentions Tai Chi/Qi Gong as an adjunct to heart health/weight loss, but not diaphragm breathing or coconut oil.
