Teaching children about the Gems of the World
I purchased one of Schumann's books in 1990 and love it. I have a small business and many children come to get a rock frommy dry mine. I have about 6 who come faithfully and I wanted to give each of them a book to learn about gems of the world fromfor Christmas. I know my Jeff will love this! Thank you

Just as I remembered.
I owned this book before and during a move it got lost. this is a great book because everything you need to know is broken down for the reader which makes it easy to understand. The copy I received is in excellent condition and I received it sooner than I was told I would, always a plus. Thanks!!!!

A Gem of a book
My personal favorite of all the gem books out there. Each page has beautiful color pictures and a complete description of the characteristics of each gemstone. I like its compact size and slick look.. A GEM of a book!

Not quite what I expected...
I was looking for a book on stones that had larger pictures and more information. It was missing information that anyone into Reiki would need. It is also smaller than a normal book. That said, it served me well for identifying some stones I bought.

A perfect pocket reference
This book is an ideal reference guide for anybody with a passing interest in gemstones, a more serious hobbyist, or even a professional jeweller. Originally published in 1977, then re-printed a few times since then. I had an original copy for many years which I eventually lent to a friend and never got back, so ended up buying a used copy to replace it. There are also new revised editions with some extra content available, which you might possibly prefer instead of this edition - but this still meets most needs.Initial chapters briefly explain some of the industrial and chemical nature of gemstones, their extraction, cutting, polishing, measuring hardness and purity, attempts to develop man-made artificial gemstones, etc.The bulk of the book is devoted to colour photographs with descriptions of the more well-known gemstones of the world, plus some of the rarer and lesser-known types. There is an ample index. So if you wish to see the appearance of e.g. an "antique cut", you can; or you can compare and see the differences between rhodocrosite and rhodonite; or look up tables containing transparency, or refractive index. I've not counted them myself, but the book's cover claims there are 1,500 stones illustrated and described - which seems very perfectly likely. Highly recommended.
