Sawyer Picaridin Bug Repellent – Should’ve Used This First
We went to Belize and got absolutely eaten alive by mosquitoes at first. I tried another brand with picaridin and it honestly didn’t help at all—we were still covered in bites. Once we switched to Sawyer, the difference was immediate. This stuff actually works, and I wish we had started with it from day one. It’s marketed as non-greasy, but in my opinion it does feel a little greasy—and I think that’s what makes it work so well. The bugs stayed away, including no-see-ums, which was huge for us. No strong smell, no fragrance, and it didn’t bother our skin at all. We used it daily for outdoor activities, walking around, and evenings outside, and it held up really well. One thing to note: if you’re traveling somewhere buggy like Belize, a single bottle will only last about 3–4 days for two people, so plan accordingly and pack extra. Bottom line: If mosquitoes love you, skip the trial-and-error and go straight to Sawyer. It works.

Finally Found Mosquito Protection That Works!
I've spent years as the designated "mosquito magnet" in my family - I can be covered head to toe while others remain untouched, and I'll still end up with dozens of bites! After trying countless repellents with disappointing results, Sawyer Products 20% Picaridin has been nothing short of miraculous for me. This spray is seriously the only mosquito repellent that consistently protects me. A thorough application before heading outdoors actually keeps those persistent bloodsuckers away, something I had almost given up hope on experiencing. The protection lasts for hours too - I can spend an entire evening outdoors without needing to reapply constantly. What I particularly appreciate is that unlike DEET-based products, this doesn't have that harsh chemical smell and doesn't leave a greasy, sticky residue on my skin. It applies clear and dries quickly, and doesn't damage my synthetic clothing or watch bands like some other repellents have. The continuous spray feature makes application quick and even, ensuring I don't miss spots. The two-pack is perfect - one stays in my backpack for hiking trips while the other lives by the back door for impromptu evening gatherings. For fellow mosquito magnets who have tried everything without success, I can't recommend Sawyer Picaridin spray highly enough. It's genuinely changed my outdoor experience from constant swatting and itching to actually enjoying nature!

Works Perfectly!
Hiked through the rainforest in Belize with this stuff on and didn’t get a single bug bite. Mosquitos were buzzing everywhere but never landed on us. Lighter smell, leaves you a little shiny but not sticky. Will definitely invest in the smaller pump spray so I can put it in my carry on. The aerosol cans are BIG and not super convenient to throw in your backpack.

They seem to work.
They seem to work for some and not as effective to others. Took it camping and one person who also used this got lit up while most others got very few mosquito bites.

Best Stuff I Have Used to Thwart Bugs. If you are "Sweet-blooded" Buy This
Okay, I have what is known it the deep South as sweet blood. Bugs just cannot resist taking a chunk out of me. I have used every brand and type of OTC bug spray found in drug stores across the country. Most either had minimal or no impact, or lasted a very short time. I had pretty much resigned myself to a life of itching and scratching, not to mention passing up many outdoor activities. While looking for flea/tick medicine for my dogs, I decided to take a quick look on Amazon for something new. I came across this product and read the reviews. I decided to give it a shot, resigned to the likely fact that I was once again wasting my time and money. But, this stuff is amazing! After spending many hours at the local dog park fending off insect assaults, I sprayed this stuff on my exposed arms, my jeans and my baseball cap. First thing I noticed is that it didn't stink. It has a light, sort of lemon smell. Next thing I noticed is that it appeared wetter, but more evenly distributed, than I expected. But, it didn't feel greasy or uncomfortable. Nor did it seem to bother my dogs, although I did make a point of keeping them out of spraying range. Into the dog park we went. We spent about an hour there. No swatting away bugs and no bites. This stuff is great. And, this stuff lasts a long time. The next day, my wife and I had breakfast outdoors at a cafe. Again, no bug attack and my wife, who is very chemical-averse, said she did not notice any chemical smell. Depending on your use or preference, this could be good or bad. For me, it is great. After short order, it transformed from being wet to becoming a slightly sticky (but not annoyingly so) thin coating. And it stayed there until I washed it off. The jeans also had a slightly sticky coating, which remained until the next day. Although it was slightly sticky to the touch, it's not like things stuck to it and there was no residue on my leather car seat. I could se how this slight stickiness and extreme lasting power could present a problem in certain circumstances, hence the 4 (as opposed to 5) stars. If you have sweet blood and find other bug strays ineffective, I definitely recommend giving this stuff a try. If, however, you are not singled out by bugs, this may be more than you need. Update: We have been experiencing a number of unusually hot humid days, the kind that causes flying insects to come out full force. This is amplified at the dog park, where, apparently the well-protected dogs are shunned in favor of more tasty humans. The tiny black flying fangs were literally swarming. Yet, while others were fiercely swatting at the air, I sat calmly, watching the insects. Only one persistent troublemaker came near me and, while making an annoyance out of himself, did not land on or bite me. This stuff is fantastic. Although I didn't feel it while at the park, once I returned to my relatively cool home, I felt like I was coated in a thin layer of plastic. But, it easily washed off. A small price to pay not to spend the night itching and scratching. Given how well this product works, I have changed the 4 stars to 5.

Passes the test!
Sawyer Products Picaridin Insect Repellent – Field-Tested Review I used Sawyer’s Picaridin Insect Repellent during a one-week wilderness survival course, and it absolutely delivered. While everyone else in the group struggled with tick bites and swatting at mosquitoes and deer flies, I came out unscathed—no ticks, no bites, no problems. What really sets this repellent apart is the scent—or rather, the lack of one. It’s not overly strong or offensive like some other sprays, which is a huge plus when you’re spending long days (and nights) outdoors. It dries quickly, doesn’t leave a greasy residue, and feels comfortable on the skin. This stuff works. Whether you’re hiking, camping, or testing your limits in the wild, Sawyer Picaridin is the real deal—effective protection without the stink or sticky mess. Highly recommend for serious outdoor use.
