Yes, the rubber bands are awful. But they are easy enough to replace. The mechanical design is also easy enough, but works well even in pairs on any dumbbell that's larger than the 5KG hex ones. The smaller ones become a little tight on the hand with two plates. Note the internal angle is bigger than the external one, making these plates easy to mount and harder to remove - which is exactly what is necessary. They do not drop due to their own weight even when shaken vigorously, and this is with the original awful bands. My only complaint is the color. Black addon plates are very easily lost in a gym with black hex dumbbells and black floors. I stuck some reflective tape on them, and suggest any who takes these to public gyms do the same. Price's a steal, too. Half the cost of any alternative. I wish there was a .25 kg version though.

So far these fractional weight plates have worked out for me. The bands seem to be weakening, but haven't broken yet. I do enjoy having the ability to increase the weight by less than the usual 5 lbs. I didn't give 5 stars due to the cost of the plate set, which in my opinion is a bit costly.

Don’t buy these!! I was excited about these and being able to increase my weights incrementally but these suck. They don’t fit the weight well and they’re held together by rubber bands!!!! The last thing I need is to have a band break when I have a dumbbell above my face or head. They’re also too large so I can’t sit my weights down with them on and they’re gapped on the weights and can pinch a finger. Great idea. Horrible execution!

Edited down from 5 stars because one of the rubber bands has already snapped after just 5 uses. I have to admit I was a little skeptical that these would do the job because they are held together with rubber bands and looked a little flimsy, but they do the job! I work out at home and have a full set of hex dumbbells but a 5 pound increase with smaller muscles like biceps and shoulders is just too much. These are allowing me to progress in 2 ½ pound increments which is safer and more doable. My only really negative is that the plates are larger than most of my dumbbells, so I can’t leave them resting in place on my bench without leaving an indentation.

These have been game changers for my dumbbell weight lifting. They are easy to put on and take off, and stay on without issue. I appreciate that extra rubber bands have been provided, but so far haven’t needed them yet after several months of regular use. I wonder if other reviewers are stretching them beyond what is strictly necessary to put on and remove the plates.
