Steppenwolf 1 & 2

This band rocked!!
I'm glad I had to the time to look back and really explore the deeper tracks on albums 1&2, because the individual musicians were very good. Back in those days if a player couldn't cut it, someone else would be there to make the track right; never mind whatever happened in concert. The studio is a completely different animal. So even if some of the songwriting was a bit dubious, the performances are very good. I wish I had the keyboardist, Goldy McJohn for a musical influence back then as a teen; I would've been more apt to take up keys instead of drums....bad mistake, my bad, 'cause I suck.

Great Starting Point
This is a great set at a great price. Each album is on its own CD in a standard slim 2-disc jewel case. The booklet has detailed bio liner notes and sound quality is great considering these are such old recordings. The bands two biggest hits, “Born to Be Wild” and “Magic Carpet Ride” are on these first two albums, which are full of other great proto-metal, hard rock and psychedelic tunes full of blue-collar grit and ruggedness. True, they had a few other charting singles, but most people no longer remember them, so for the curious or casual listener, this will serve as a perfect best-of. The second album is a bit more folksy and cosmic, but still rocks pretty hard overall. The quality of these two albums will outshine almost any of their recordings after this point, so this is arguably the best starting point to explore Steppenwolf.

Very Different Albums
The debut lp seems more realized and a better listening experience. While a few great cuts present on The Second, Magic Carpet and 28 steal the show. That notorious 60s lp filler is definitely on Second!

I was very pleased to find both of these great titles together for such a low price.

I got it in and it sounds OK. Not horrible as one reviewer indicated and not CD-Rs but a couple of things puzzle me. No where is it stated that this is remastered in the CD info. Not the material that comes with the CDs or the BGO Records website and the thing that really puzzles me is that the CD info does state that the product is AAD. I don't see how this could be a remaster since it AAD. Just my thoughts.... I just bought Gold to compare with this since folks have a high opinion of the sound quality for that release to compare to this. So OK sound but I have my doubt the remastered part as listed on Amazon.

Steppenwolf - 'Steppenwolf / The Second' (Beat Goes On)
Band's first two lp's on a 2-CD reissue, both from 1968. Right from the original master tapes, with great sound quality. Timeless album rock. Many great Steppenwolf tracks are included here, like "Sookie Sookie", "Berry Rides Again", the FM staple "Born To Be Wild", the unforgettable "The Pusher" (my personal Steppenwolf favorite), "Don't Step On The Grass, Sam", "Magic Carpet Ride" and "Hodge, Podge, Strained Through A Leslie". Ever notice how previously mentioned "Born To Be Wild" and "Magic Carpet Ride" often get played on classic rock, metal AND oldie stations? There aren't many bands that get that treatment. A should-have.

Classic 1st two albums together
The 1st two classic Steppenwolf albums together. A cutting edge band ahead of their time. Sounding great (no more Snap Crackle and Pops on your old LP version) and relevant in 2017. (Don't Step on the Grass Sam should be a 2017 anthem). The only bad song is Born to be Wild, but other than that silly song, ENJOY!

John Kay
It doesn't get better than this if you are a Steppenwolf fan. I think that that this album set contains the first rock opera, contrary to popular belief that the WHO holds that distinction. I was listening to side two of album two just the other day and was just so happy to be doing so. Great lyrics to live by, "I wish I would have been kinder, we could have parted just like friends" on heck of a story that repeats itself for most everybody in their life. Inspirational........

音質向上!
Disc 1の「STEPPENWOLF」(1st album)は、以前のCDよりノイズが減り、低音域が厚くなりいい感じです。Disc 2の「STEPPENWOLF THE SECOND」は、それ程変化を感じませんでした。

A favorite. Glad to have it
A favorite. Glad to have it. That Side 2 medley on II is so good. Second best medley in Rock after Abbey Road.

Après l’entrainant « Faster than the speed of life » et le bluesy « Tighten up your wig » bien soutenu à l’harmonica on apprécie « None of your doing ».
