Alicia IS Lara! Even with an iffy script! Tons of fun!
First and foremost, Alicia's performance of Lara is incredible; she's captured a side of Lara that Angelina just couldn't've. Physically, she's utterly phenomenal and handles the action set pieces with deft perfection. She's exactly what you want for a younger portrayal of Lara, with a duality between an inner innocence and her inherently outstanding combat and survival skills. And dramatically, she captures the deeper character of Lara, too, with zero rigidity. Absolute 10/10 for Alicia.Direction, lighting, cinematography, location, supporting cast, action sequences were superb, too. The only thing that lets this film down is its script. Now, I'm quite aware this is Tomb Raider, and therefore a video game adaption, and leaky scripts are to be expected. But I really wanted more, given the stellar cast; the plot was dull, hackneyed and nonsensical at times. Maybe I'm asking too much for a video game film, as nobody is expecting an Oscar winning screenplay, but I really think Alicia deserved something more. However I do understand, for a film like this, what's most important is the star and the direction. So maybe I'm being unfair here.Overall, an excellent film. From Alicia's utterly flawless performance, to the edge-of-your-seat action sequences, to the eye-popping cinematic candy, this film is an absolute blast. I would just have liked a more challenging script for the viewer, personally. It needs a sequel!

IN SEARCH OF WHAT REALLY HAPPENED TO HER FATHER (SUPERB 4K)
As one might expect for a 2018 movie, the 4k upgrade is indeed spot-on for visual enjoyment. After almost 15 years absence from the big-screen the Lara Croft movie-series makes a welcome return, now, Alicia Vikander taking on the lead-role.'Lara' now 21 who's father disappeared some 7 years ago presumed dead has never quite accepted that fact and strangely though having access to a fortune has chosen to live a very different life. However, this independent yet curious heiress discovers upon returning briefly to her family home her fathers secret office where she finds a recording made by her father that instructs her to destroy the paperwork related to Himiko the mythical queen of Yamatai who it was said had the power over life and death.........well, Lara seeing the opportunity to find out what really happened to her father ignores his instruction and indeed sets off to Hong Kong in the hope of reaching Yamatai. She will find there to be an organisation seeking the tomb of Himiko with the intent of using the power of the queen as a weapon. The adventure turns into an action-packed battle of survival and struggle to keep the seekers from after 7 years of searching finding what they seek. Many i'm sure will draw comparisons between Alicia and Angelina portraying Lara Croft and will have preferences, for me, the two approach the role very differently, this version is much darker and grittier than the delightful earlier films.....i did enjoy the Angelina versions, however, have to say though somewhat different i did also enjoy the action-packed Alicia effort. The way has been left open for more big-screen Lara adventures.

Absolutely amazing. Best film in a long time!!!
I am a massive fan of Tomb Raider, and this film is brilliant. If you have played the newer Reboot games then this is definitely for you. This is the movie remake of the first of the newer Tomb Raider games, 'Tomb Raider A Survivor is Born, and I can say that they have done a fantastic job. Making a movie from a game is never easy to get right but they nailed it. Alicia makes the perfect Lara Croft in every way. Hey likeness and her acting are second to none. One thing I feel I have to point out to all the reviewers who have slated this film and keep comparing it to the Last Gen Tomb Raider games and Angelina Jolie films (which are also brilliant), need to stop. This movie and the soon to be 3 reboot games are The Next Gen Tomb Raiders and have nothing to do with previous games or movies. This and the reboots are complete new Tomb Raiders, and take a more serious approach. Even if you have not played the newer games I really recommend watching this movie. To me Alicia plays the perfect Lara Croft and I cannot wait for the Rise of the Tomb Raider movie:). 5 out of 5!

Bad playback
Playback is jumpy and the DVD comes with a download offer which has expired. Doesn't seem like a new disc.

TOMB RAIDER DVD from Warner Bros
Again I find myself somewhat taken aback by the very strong opinions on the ONE star reviews. Each to their own of course, but I do sometimes wonder if we are all watching the same film!! The DVD quality is excellent, good clear picture, sound and subtitles, with a documentary on the making of the film. Of course the plot doesn't bear too much analysis! In fact - just go with the flow - this is no Oscar script, in fact very little script at all - it's all about action. I chanced upon AliCia Vikander on You tube (I thjink) in a short film of the incredible fitness regime/training she went through, and it shows. I would have loved clarification of how she achieved her almost superpowers, but in the end I just went with the flow. She is great, I don't care if you don't agree, so there! Walton Goggins makes a good villain and the CGI/Action svenes are imprsive. Recomended for mindless entertainment, and, yes, we all need that occasionally.
