My daughter gave me a Talisker 10 year old for Christmas (she,s always into quality for presents, love her). It was a while before I tried a sip. Well it took my breath away - what a jolt of flavour such as I had never experienced before. I realised this was really some kind of exceptional tipple. Of course I have had the odd bottles, often duty frees, Lidle Queen Margaret, and a few better ones like Grouse, Walker etc. but they were just a means of getting an alcohol effect. Talisker was in a completely different league. I am not much aware of the cult status of single malts. Reading the other reviews told me that Taliker might be unique - people had made a serious study of the whole gamut but seem to have settled on this single. The new version "Storm had many equally enthusiastic reviewers. I read expert sippers comparisons between 10 year old and Storm - they seem hard to separate. I sent for this bottle as I WAS GETTING A FEEL FOR EXCELENCE I thought if my daughter felt I was worth such extravagance, why should I not take up the challenge. It seemed not really worth trying other fine whiskies, when so many were prepared to settle for Talisker. All I can say on first comparison to the 10 year version is that, storm has just as intense a first reaction to a sip, a beautiful but hard to detail taste almost mind blowing - there seems a slightly less oil perception, a longer follow whic is slightly less sweet than 10 year old. The price difference is slight, but there are many equally expensive single malts which might conceivably have a distinct feature - but for me sipping both neat there is nothing to prefer - they are very similar Storm may have a bit of extra spirit bite at first. Both are wonderful !

Great price for a favorite tipple.

I was looking for a smooth smokey whisky and came across this one on offer. This is one of the nicest scotch whiskies that I have tasted. Deep smokey flavour, it packs a punch but retains a smooth texture in the mouth, definitely recommend giving it a try if you like a smokey one.

I haven't written any reviews for the many whiskies that i have bought, mainly because I am not qualified or experienced enough to give a meaningful review, but for this, I write about an aspect of the nose/taste that affected my enjoyment of it, one that is not in other reviews. I can't really describe the nose or the spectrum of flavours that I get, other than to give a basic comparison to the 10y old version. It's all very nice, smoky, warming and sweeter with little or none of the sharpness that is often attributed to young whiskies (as I found in the "Talisker Skye"). It does have something that I smell and taste that no-one else ever comments upon. For me, it has an element on the nose and taste of something slightly cheesy, sulphurous or sour. I find it in mainly cheap whiskies, sometimes in addition to young sharpness. I found it stronger in my Ledaig Rioja cask. In that it began to disappear as the level went down, so maybe it can be oxidised from the bottle. I find no such element in the10y old. This might be down to my taste buds and palate, but if you know what I try to describe, you too might find it in here. Good value at the sale price of £29. I will order more if those tastes wear off.

I could Not recommend this enough. If you are into Smokey whiskeys, this is a very smooth one with a wonderful taste. You can taste the barrels! Amazing, highly recommend.

Really good whiskey for those who like a smoky whiskey that is majorly overpowering ... in my opinion. Defo one of my favourites.

Really great whisky - a distinct yet smooth smokiness is followed by hints of honey, caramel and vanilla as well as bit of tropical citrus mixed with peat as an aftertaste - that said the smoky wood finish is still very pleasant. As the product is reasonably priced - I would definitely recommend it to any whisky home made connoisseur.

Da mein Partner absoluter Whisky-Fan ist, taste ich mich seit einiger Zeit auch an die Whisky-Welt heran. Dabei bin ich dann über den Talisker Storm gestolpert. Vorab: Zuerst war ich von Whisky nicht so ganz überzeugt, da mein Partner eher die milden Whiskys wie z. B. die aus dem Hause Macallan bevorzugt. Mir erschienen diese Whiskys zwar hochwertig aber dennoch irgendwie langweilig. Also habe ich etwas recherchiert, um den Whisky-Hype nachvollziehen zu können. Dabei habe ich dann festgestellt, dass es unglaublich viele verschiedene Whiskysorten gibt und das Whisky eben nicht gleich Whisky ist bzw. das sich die Geister beim Whisky-Geschmack absolut scheiden. Fasziniert von dieser Vielfalt und den z. T. unglaublichen Geschmacksnuancen, die der Kenner wohl herausschmeckt, habe ich mir dann den Klassiker unter den Whiskys, den 10 Jahre alten Single Malt von Talisker, bestellt. Bereits beim ersten Schluck eröffneten sich mir eine ganz andere Welt. Im Gegensatz zu den Whiskys von meinem Partner, die natürlich auch hervorragend sind, wenn man eher mildere Whiskys bevorzugt, hatte ich plötzlich das Gefühl etwas lebhaftes und spannendes zu trinken. Ich war begeistert aber wusste auch, dass das noch nicht zu 100 % meinen Geschmack trifft. Also habe ich weitere recherchiert und bin dabei über den Talisker Storm gestolpert, dessen Beschreibung mich sofort angesprochen hat. Folglich habe ich ihn dann auch bestellt. Bei diesem Whisky hatte ich zum aller erst Mal das Gefühl genau das herauszuschmecken, was in der Beschreibung stand. Ich bin zwar kein Kenner aber ich versuche es nachfolgend mal in eigenen Worten wiederzugeben. Zum Whisky: Der Whisky riecht mild süßlich malzig, mit leichten Nouancen von karamellisiertem Rohrzucker, Honig und Röstaromen. Der Torfrauch ist deutlich wahrzunehmen und verschmilzt mit den übrigen Nuancen, ohne dabei unangenehm aufdringlich hervorzustechen. Meines Erachtens ist der Geruch weder Scharf, noch sonderlich alkohollastig. Geschmacklich erwartet einen eine echte Geschmacksexplosion. Anfangs nimmt man süßliche Komponenten wie Honig und Rohrzucker war, die dicht gefolgt von einer angenehmen pfeffrigen Schärfe sind. Im Abgang klingt die Schärfe leicht nach, wird allerdings von den süßlichen Komponenten, einem leicht salzigen und eichenhölzernem Geschmack sowie einer angenehmen Wärme übertönt. Über die Gesamtdauer wird der Geschmack von Trockenheit und unterschiedlichen Torfrauchnuancen begleitet, die wie beim Geruch deutlich wahrnehmbar aber mit den übrigen Komponenten im Einklang sind. Ein Aschenbechergeruch oder gar -geschmack ist hier definitiv nicht wahrnehmbar. Wer das behauptet, hat vermutlich noch nie geraucht 😅. Auch ist der Rauch Geschmack zwar vorhanden aber die Torfnuancen sind nicht überpräsent. Auf einer Skala von 0 bis 10 würde ich der Torfintensität eine 4 bis 5 geben, da es weitaus torfigere Whisky gibt, bei denen selbst mich der Ekel packt 😂 🙈. Resümee: Meines Erachtens beschreibt die Bezeichnung Storm genau das, was einen beim Genuss erwartet. Der Whisky ist absolut vielschichtig aber dennoch in sich ausgewogen. Für mich als „Einsteiger“ ist das der beste Whisky, den ich je getrunken habe. An diese geschmackliche Vielschichtigkeit und Lebendigkeit kommt auch der 16 Jahre alte Single Malt der Destillerie Lagavulin nicht heran. Ich bin absolut begeistert und hoffe euch hat meine semiprofessionelle Beschreibung, in der ich meine persönliche Wahrnehmung wiedergegeben habe, geholfen. Ich werde den Whisky definitiv wieder kaufen und ihn auch weiterempfehlen - jedenfalls, an (Torf-)Rauch Liebhaber.
