Stephen King approved page-turner with a satisfying and ingenious plot.
Read this in a single sitting. Great pacing, intriguing plot twists, evocative prose. And several lines that elicited some chortling outa me. A first-class summer read. Here are some bits I liked especially:"Everybody was thinking, Rubber Room, Rubber Room, but they just listened quietly. All the deeply crazy ones sooner or later end up in a room full of silent and attentive cops.""Not the swiftest starling in the murmuration, if you know what I mean.""Annamaria Vizzini was an imperious Sicilian black-haired blue-eyed beauty who ran Tessio up and down the staircases of her whimsical moods like a hotel bellhop."

Amazing
What a story! Had to read it in one go, couldn't put it down. Brilliant story line, that's really got me thinking of how little we know of life as we know it!

Time well spent!
I gave this book 5 stars, because I think it's that good. I loved the story line, and having read Carsten Stroud's work before, new it would probably be good, but it was even better than I expected. He's quite the storyteller, and this is my favorite of his stand alone books. Do yourself a favor, and grab this one!

Started great but ended a loser
This book had a great starting premise but just fell apart. A witchy woman who could control people, and who was evil. The hero, a cop who was connected to her and to her crime boss lover, and it just dissolved into a time travel confused quick ending that didn't work. Too bad.

The Shimmer - intriguing and thought provoking.
This book took me to a place that I’d never been before nor ever thought about. Gripping and involved, it had me at the beginning of the book to the point I couldn’t put it down. Entertaining as well as disturbing —- it certainly gives you pause to consider the possibilities therein.

Carsten Stroud is the Best
Stroud writes cops better than anyone. He keeps the story pumping along at shotgun velocity.
