I got the Top Trumps World Football Stars pack for my nephew, who’s football mad and always looking for new ways to engage with the game outside of just watching matches. I used to play Top Trumps myself when I was younger, so I thought it would be a nice way to combine his love for football with a bit of educational fun.The design of the cards is really eye-catching, with bold colours and clear photos of each player, making it easy to recognise all the big stars. Virgil Van Dijk, Thomas Müller, Saka, and Ødegaard are all featured, alongside many other well-known footballers. It’s not just current players, but some legends of the sport too, which adds a nice mix for both young fans and adults who might want to join in. The stats themselves, which compare categories like skill, pace, and international caps, are great for sparking debates and teaching a bit about the players’ strengths.While the game is easy enough for kids to pick up, I was hoping for a bit more variety in terms of players included. There’s a focus on players from the major European leagues, which is understandable, but it would’ve been nice to see more players from less spotlighted countries and leagues to give it a more global feel. My nephew noticed a couple of his favourite stars missing, which was a bit of a letdown.
