What does UV do for plants? We use UV-A LED diodes in our grow lights. More and more research has been coming out recently showing the positive effect UV-A has in increasing photosynthesis and growth for plants. The Institute of Applied Research at the Vilnius University in Lithuania tested basil and beets and found “Almost all supplemental UV-A irradiation treatments resulted in increased leaf area and fresh weight.” Other tests with leaf lettuce, peppermint, and soybeans under UV-A supplemental lighting also resulted with increased leaf area and less internodal spacing and stretching.
