This set looked like a updated version of the E5 but I wasn't ...
Wanted some wireless speakers to replace my Logitech Z506 speakers for a while now. Looked at various systems, including the Philips E5. This set looked like a updated version of the E5 but I wasn't sure as with it being new there were very few reviews. Anyway I thought I'd take a chance on them and I'm glad I did.Firstly before I talk about these speakers I have to say my Z506 speakers are very capable for such a cheap set, outputting sound well beyond what I thought I'd get for the £65 price tag, especially when connected through a true 5.1 connection from a PC. However when connected through a single phono cable (which is the only way I could connect to my TV) the rear speakers would lose a bit of quality and sound a bit buzzy at times. Also I'd sometimes hear a bit of hum from them when a soundtrack was quiet or no input. With the Philips CSS5235Y (or Philips F5 or Philips Firestorm as I've found them named elsewhere) I haven't had any of these problems. Just plug the right hand speaker and the sub to power sockets and run a single cable from right speaker to left. Then I used a HDMI cable from the right speaker to the HDMI 1 ARC connection on my TV (these speakers also have optical, coaxial and phono but I prefer ARC) and it just worked. Everything coming to my TV comes through the Philips speakers in great quality (could connect a PC or whatever seperately but my PC goes to my TV as well so didn't bother). I mean I'm no audio expert but its a brilliant balanced sound IMO for Music, TV and Movies and the remote allows for very easy change of bass, treble, surround, stereo (if you want stereo surround in 5.1 mode rather than full surround) and volume. The remote also allows for source selection (ARC, coaxial, Optical) as well as bluetooth selection, night mode (a mode that brings louder sounds down in movies ect at night) and audio sync (to delay or remove delay from audio if for some reason video and audio is out of sync). The detachable rear speakers work perfectly, just remove both from the front speakers and place them at the back of the room and the system automatically changes from stereo to surround, they also sound great and provide a far better surround effect than my last system, better sound than a Sonos setup my friend has (Play Bar and two Play 1's)Tried Bluetooth and it works easily. Pairs and straight away all of the main sounds from my phone came through the Philips speakers.Anyway so far so good, amazing speakers for a great price.

great looking and sounding system
great looking and sounding system. much easier to get surround sound by just lifting off the two small speakers and then placing them behind you anywhere you want, rather than having so called wireless surround speakers which still have to connect to a transmitter. the sub woofer is small but powerful and with sound choices of voice, music or movie, there is plenty to suit every taste. quite expensive but well worth it.

EXCELLENT SET !
THIS IS A VERY GOOD SOUNDING SET, MUCH BETTER THAN A SOUNDBAR WHEN YOU CAN SET THE 2 WIRELESS SPEAKERS AT THE BACK OF THE ROOM, AND NICE TO BE ABLE TO ADJUST BASE AND TREBLE ETC, BUT BE AWARE THE SUBWOOFER AND 2 FRONT SPEAKERS DO HAVE MAINS POWER CABLES + OTHERS. I DONT THINK THESE SETS SHOULD BE ADVERTISED AS WIRELESS, I THINK THEY SHOULD SAY SEMI WIRELESS. NEVERTHELESS AM VERY PLEASED WITH THE SOUND QUALITY.

this is an excellent
The wireless speakers are a little weak but considering I do not need to have cables running around the room, this is an excellent product

Geat buy
Outstanding value for money. Brilliant sound and the ability to move the top of the speakers anywhere in the room without wires is great.
