Great brand and organic - but pricey
Pukka has developed a great name for herbal teas and is now branching out into supplements. Spirulina is always an expensive product but there are other organic brands with 3 times the tablets for about the same price. With spirulina it's often recommended to take 20 tablets a day, so this box would only last for a week. Pukka suggest building up to 6 tablets 3 times a day. It's a great supplement but very expensive.

The packaging is pretty but slightly vague...
This pack contains 150 tablets which sounds like a lot but the recommended dose, which at the time of writing I couldn’t immediately see on the listing, is 2-4 tablets a day as the initial dose, increasing to 6 tablets a day with the optimum dose recommended at 6 tablets 3 times a day (18 tablets/day). So at the optimum dose this is a little over a weeks supply, although the side of the pack states that it lasts 25 days which is possibly slightly misleading. From having taken spirulina before I believe that you’re supposed to start off with a small dosage and then increase as starting on a high dosage straight off the bat can cause unpleasant detox symptoms such as headaches. The tablets are organic, suitable for vegetarians and vegans, free from dairy, wheat grain, gluten, added sugar and soya, though I’m not sure that these would be found/ added to other spirulina supplements. It is however reassuring to know that these tablets are free from a lot of the main allergens. The packaging is very vague as to what the benefits of spirulina are, the jar itself states that it supports skin, vision and energy. A quick search shows that the benefits of spirulina reportedly include detoxing heavy metals, lowers cholesterol, weight loss, energy increase, may have anti cancer properties, but a lot of the articles I read point to these all being potential and not proven benefits of the algae. It is however very nutrient dense and a source of vegan protein, I have found personally that it really aids with a sluggish digestive system.

For healthy skin, better vision, more energy - you do need to take more than one a day
I'd heard of Spirulina before but never tried it. These tablets look amazing and contain Vitamin A which contributes to the maintenance of healthy skin and better eyesight, and Vitamin B12 which reduces tiredness and fatigue and helps in the production of red blood cells. Wow - what's not to like? They come in a glass jar which is inside a cardboard box on which is all the information you need about the tablets, explaining all about Spirulina. They are circular tablets (not capsules) about 1 cm diameter, so not too difficult to swallow with a glass of water, and they are dark green in colour. They have an interesting plant-like smell. Guaranteed organic, gluten and dairy-free, with no GMO or sugar or soya, they are suitable for vegetarians and vegans. There are 150 tablets in the jar so it seems they will last a nice long time - but wait, you do need to take more than one a day. Apparently you start off with 2-4 tablets a day and increase to 6 tablets a day (with an optimum of 6 tablets 3 times a day!) That way they won't last very long at all, so maybe £12 isn't such a bargain after all. Anyway I'm prepared to give them a go and see if they make me feel more healthy.

Trusted Brand, Easy To Swallow
I’ve been hearing about spirulina for a while now, so thought that I would try this myself. I’m a big fan of Pukka Herbs; I drink one or other of their herbal / green teas almost every day and really love them for their taste and variety, so was intrigued to try this, for me at least, diversification from them The tablets are small, green and smell of the fish food my friend buys for his koi- not unpleasant; a bit weird. They are easy to swallow, which is useful as the suggested dose, after a week of working your way in with 4 a day is 6 a day. In fact apparently for optimal performance the recommendation is 6 three times a day! That is a lot of tablets! I haven’t gone that far, I’ve stuck to six a day. At that level, I have to be honest, after taking these for two weeks, now, I haven’t noticed any difference in my energy levels or general well being. Maybe they do some good, or are doing some good deep down, but it’s virtually impossible to gauge that and, as with vitamins it is a bit of a faith thing, taking these. If you want to take spirulina and prefer them in tablet form, these would be a good choice from, for me, a trusted brand.

Green is good
Spirulina is a biomass of cyanobacteria and as scary as that sounds, it is supposedly good for you. It's choc full of vitamin A and B12 and as I have had a run of poor health this year so far I thought I'd give my self a boost. Naturally, if you follow a healthy, balanced diet then you should get all the vitamins and minerals you need in your daily life (but in reality, that's not always possible). The tablets are small, very green and don't have much of a taste or smell. This is probably the easist way to take Spirulin.I did the 4 tablets a day for the first week and now I'm on 6 tablets a day until the bottle is empty. The bottle contains enough tablets for 25 days, so this isn't a cheap supplement. Do I feel any different? No, however I will report back when the bottle is done. One thing, on the box it reads: "Optimum: 6 tablets 3 times a day"Does that mean two tablets, three times a day or three lots of six tablets (a whopping 18 in total)? Someone's bound to get caught out with that, as it's not clear.Product is Organic & Vegan, which is nice and as it should be.
