Gung Hay Fat Choy
I liked that it it is a flip book and shares the traditions of Chinese New Year. I know it’s not in the story itself, but to see “Gung Hay Fat Choy” written brings me back to my childhood. Seeing that one of the first wave of Chinese immigrant to America were mostly Cantonese/Toisanese people who did not speak Mandarin is not forgotten makes this book more personal to me and my very Americanized daughter.

I was disappointed because we were in a Mandarin-Speaking city
My family lived in China for five years, including the first three of my son's life. Now that we're back in the States, I want to find ways to continue my son's awareness and memories of China. This is a cute book that seems to adequately show true and realistic Chinese customs for the Lunar New Year. HOWEVER, heads up that the Chinese used in the book is CANTONESE - not Mandarin. "Gung Hay Fat Choy" is Cantonese for "Happy New Year" and is spoken in Hong Kong and very southeast of China. Mandarin is the "official" language and is spoken by a majority of the country. "Xin nian kuai le" is Mandarin for "Happy New Year." Please note, this is simply an FYI, not a general positive or negative thing. I was disappointed because we were in a Mandarin-Speaking city, but it's as simple as changing those small parts. Not a big deal

Very popular with my students!
I teach children in China online, so I bought this book around the Chinese New Year. The kids liked it, and it was a lot of fun to read it to them!

Good book to read to kids about CNY.
Ordered this to read in the library during CNY. Kids were able to teach me how to appropriately province a couple of Chinese words! Good learning experience for all.

Good book with correct customs
Good book, the customs and traditions are correct. Only shortcoming is that the flaps are a little "weak" and my 2 y.o. ripped one the first time we read it. Otherwise, it's one of the better books on CNY that I've found.

For very young children
It’s a nice little book with pretty illustrations but it’s for a younger crowd than I expected. It’s more for preschool/kindergarten. But it gave simple basic facts about the Chinese New Year.

Lovely Book
Provides a great overview of the Lunar New Year - traditions and symbols. Using it in my classroom for children aged 2.5 to 6 years old. The children love the flaps and interactive pages.
