I first read this book back in 2006, after my first sailing experience in 2005. What an inspiration!Bill and Lauren gives you a glimpse into a lifestyle I didn't even know was possible. They have been real pioneers of the live aboard lifestyle and gives practical advise on how to achieve and maintain it, but they are also levelheaded and advises the reader that this lifestyle is not for everyone - they have designed the "Poseidon test" where you can test how strong your motivation to sell and sail really is!This book has been my inspiration for the last decade. I am sure there are other more up-to-date guides on how to get into the sailing lifestyle in the marketplace, but this one will always be my favourite!

it is a pretty good book on this subject: it tells you the basics and the important aspects of the title.Many questions that a would be cruiser sailor asks, answered .I would strongly recommend this book .

Sell up and sail was first published 20 years ago and has been regularly updated since. It contains the wisdom of two people who have spent the last 30 years living on board a boat and cruising around the world. The advice is well researched and contains plenty of personal anecdotes and recommendations. Most areas of long term crusing are covered including yacht layout, finances and pets. Somer other books are better at explaining specific aspects of long distance cruising (such as optimum hull materials or sail plans), but as a general guide this book has few equals.
