For those that say it's loud, it may be because you have no stones or resistance attached to the outlet at that time. If you just plug it in to test it, it is loud, but with the stones attached and regulated, the hum is much less. It does get warm to the touch over time, but I do have a small computer fan gently blowing over it. I found that if you add a hose of the appropriate diameter to fit over the intake tube and about 12" in length, the hum is considerably less. The hose acts as a muffler on the intake side. It's now quieter than the 4 outlet air pump I had with WAY more air.

Decided to pick up the Vivosun Commercial 102W Aquarium air pump as my Higger aquarium air pumps kept slowly burning out. I needed a better-quality pump that could do the work of four Higger air pumps and last longer than 3 to 6 months. Since switching over to the Vivosun from the Higger pumps, I had no issues. The pump currently supplies air to four 18-inch bubble bars in my 450-gallon aquarium. The amount of air generated is impressive. All four bubble bars are running at with the valves wide open and there's still air to spare. Vivosun provides a generous 12 port manifold to allow for many connections from a single point. The pump is an impressive piece of equipment. Last thing to note, I created a video to do a noise demo. In the video I stand about 6 or so feet from the aquarium before approaching it and opening the cabinet to show the difference in noise levels. What the audience is not aware of is I have already taken measures to lower the amount of noise being generated by the pump. I added a rubber mat underneath two 2x4s the Vivosun sits on dampening the noise quite a bit and currently bleeding off excess air. My plan in the near future is to see if I can further dampen the noise more by placing it in a Heavy-Duty container wrapped with noise absorbent/cancellation foam.My noise demonstration video on youtube. The good: small and compact and seems well built. Produces a significant amount of air.The bad: runs very hot. It is outside but protected. I cannot touch it for more than a few seconds at most. Doubt pump longevity based on the high temperatures it produces. It is a bit louder than expected but have little to compare to.

I expected so much more from an air pump boasting 50W of power and 1110 GPH airflow. The first thing I noticed when I initially hooked it up, is how hot it gets, including the nozzle the air hose connects with. I used this pump in a 6 pot hydroponic RDWC Root Sprayer setup, with 2 air stones in the pump tank, and one airstone each per 5 gallon pot. This pump had great airflow, while it worked. This pump becomes very noisy within a year, and died within 6 months after. The Vivosun pump ran so hot, it melted the tube to the nozzle which in my opinion, makes this thing a fire hazard I really wanted to love this pump for the price/airflow rating, but longevity was very lacking. I can't have a pump possibly burning my home down. I also need a pump to be able to run 24/7/365.In fairness, I bought a second pump from Vivosun, just in case I just had a bad one, hopefully, the second one will last longer. I still have an Active Aqua pump that is still quiet, and still running, and they were both bought at the same time. For the money being asked, I would expect a pump to last much longer. It is clear the integrated cooling design is incapable of dispersing adequate heat to keep the oil from burning up. They may want to consider redesigning this pump with internal cooling inside a shell, similar to Active Aqua's version.The new one still runs much hotter than it should, and could easily burn you, especially if you use the carrying handle and your knuckles touch the metal housing when gripping the tiny handle.

Bought this to use as an air assist for laser cutting and it work great for that.It is a bit noisy when it is sitting on a surface so I have it hanging off the edge of my table and the noise is significantly reduced.

I bought this for my first pump for a 4x4 tent with 4 plants. It is..........loud, to say the least.HOWEVER, I should have done my research first, as this is a commercial pump and wasn't designed for my intentions. If i decide to move my tent out to the garage (outside of hearing range) this pump will be amazing. It is as powerful as it is loud, and supplied and insane amount of pumping power which could be amazing for my uses, but ONLY if it is outside of ear-range.Consider your needs and setup. If noise is not an issue, this is great. If noise is an issue, consider a less powerful pump.EDIT: I needed an extra pump and so I gave this one a shot despite the noise - IT'S ONLY CRAZY LOUD WHEN THE STONES ARENT HOOKED UP!!! I feel pretty dumb. This thing is super-quiet and insanely powerful. I only figured this out near the end of my grow, and I regret not exploring this thing further. I had a HydroFarm 4 outlet and another smaller 2 outlet connected before I set this one up, which conveniently has six ports. I now have 2 spare air pumps after replacing them with this model. I want to reiterate: this pump makes less noise than both my other pumps running and provides approximately four times the power Very impressed.SECOND EDIT: Bought a second pump which was insanely loud, even after hooking up the air stones. I struggled with the noise for a long time before I took off the black cap and saw that the rubber gasket sealing the case was folded over itself, allowing air leaks and intense vibrations. I attempted to re-fit the rubber gasket, but realized it was slightly too large for the frame it was meant to wrap around. It may have stretched, or it may have just been a defective ring. I pulled the ring out and replaced it as best i could, which greatly reduced vibration and noise. It is now only slightly louder than my original pump, which is acceptable to me, and I am pleased not to have had to return it at this point, because these pumps really do work very well, especially with the 6 outlets per pump. Still pleased with the product, despite the initial headache.

I hooked this up to my smallish backyard pond (100-200 gallons) and it looked like the water was boiling.The power was great, the problem is I could hear it quite clearly from my deck ~10m away. You can turn down the airflow with the levers, but the motor power is the same, so you're still wasting power and the motor will still be super loud.So if you have a largish pool outdoor for which you need that much airflow it's great, or if you're a restaurant with a bunch of big tanks to keep aerated.But the description suggests a home aquarium, and I can't imagine using it in my house at that noise level.
