Soup to nuts, legally speaking
Having been led by the economy to jump ship from "cozy salaried employee" to "novice consultant," I needed advice on the steps needed to create the correct business structure. I wasn't disappointed by "Form Your Own Limited Liability Company," which contains not only the background information on what an LLC is, why you might want to form one (or not), but also detailed steps, facsimiles of paper forms for just about every step in the life of the LLC, and very importantly a CD-ROM containing electronic versions of the form. Basically, this book should save its readers hundreds of dollars in legal fees, or if people were determined to wing it without a lawyer, it will save them from making mistakes. The only regret I have is that there is less information than I wished to find on whether an LLC organizer needs to get a tax number for the LLC separate from their own, and how to do it. Mr. Macuso may correctly prefer to leave this to a discussion between the reader and his/her CPA, but he should at least have said that.In spite of this minor gripe, the book is clear, well organized, elegant in its design, and extremely helpful.

Excellent Resource
This book provides a step by step guide to creating your llc. It clearly describes the requirements and differences between the llc options. I highly recommend this book as a starting point. It is well laid and and easy to understand.

Clear and concise
In our case, this book was more of a help with planning than providing the actual legal forms necessary to legally form an LLC. Here's why, in our state, if you have internet access and a printer, it's very simple. All you need to do is fill out one on-line form provided by the state, print it, write a check for the fee, mail it, and wait. What a book like this does is give you confidence that it is really just that simple. There are plenty of services on the internet, including services advertised on the website of the publisher, NoLo, that want to charge quite a bit more to do the work for you - or I'm sure you can find a local attorney who will also do the work for you, probably for an even higher fee. Maybe that's what you need, but for our small business, we found our startup money better spent on marketing and sales promotion than legal fees. The one thing that was missing for me in this book, thus only 4 stars, was any discussion on LLC location. We needed additional research to satisfy our questions here. Finally, we were able to use one of the legal forms on the CD as a template for our LLC operating agreement between members. That was handy and important, though in our state not a required document to form an LLC.

I love Nolo
No matter what I need to do, I know I can always get a CD from Nolo to give me the templates I need. This made incorporating two companies a total snap. Excellent book.

Great Book! (But CD-ROM is useless)
If you're thinking of forming your own LLC, I highly recommend this book. You probably will NOT need to spend hundreds of dollars on those on-line corporate registration services to do all this for you. Most of the states have made it easy to form a company, because so many companies are small businesses. And small business is the backbone of the U.S. economy. Get this book, study it, draw up your plans based on it, ignore LegalZoom and MyCorporation, and you'll be set. But don't expect anything from the CD-ROM that comes with the book. It doesn't work. I tried to talk with Nolo about this, but they referred me to Amazon. Amazon sent a replacement when my first disc wouldn't run on my machine. Neither did the second. It's okay. Most of the forms are available either on-line or as tear-outs in the book. And it's easy to draft your own originals based on the examples in the book.
