Very effective means of blocking unwanted calls - UK and International
Last year I purchased a set of cordless phones which displayed the caller's number and also had a call blocking feature. It worked very well at blocking calls within the UK but did not block international calls. It was only because of the number display that I became aware that the majority of the cold calls I received were actually international. I was receiving such calls seven days a week, at all hours of the day. Although I kept the answering machine switched on and the callers would hang up as soon as they heard this, it was still extremely intrusive. I would jump up every time the phone rang to check the caller's ID. In addition, the memory on my phone soon filled up and I was still receiving cold calls. It was then that I decided that I needed something more effective. This gadget is small and simply plugged into my landline phone. I decided to block all calls where no caller ID was given. This took a few attempts (probably my fault) but I managed it and this worked very well. Dealing with unwanted calls where the caller ID is displayed is even easier. You simply press the "blacklist" button on the machine and It adds the number to your blacklist. So far this gadget is working very well and peace now reigns in my house!

Bust those blighters!
I've been using this call blocker for a few weeks now and have been very impressed by it. It arrived promptly and was very easy to set up - it took less than a minute, with the wire that leads from my phone wall socket to my phone going into the the call blocker and the lead provided goes from the call blocker to my phone. No separate power source is needed. I manually added some scam/cold-call sales numbers that I had in my call log - also very easy to do - and have used the in-call red blocking button during a couple of more recent ones. With blocked calls you can choose to allow your phone to ring once or not at all. I used the second option and I've not had a single scam/sales call ring my phone for the last three weeks. Peace and quiet has resumed. Excellent product.UPDATE:Having now used this call-blocker for around 7 months I thought an update would be useful for any future purchaser.During month 3 the calls started again but using new numbers. I added these to the blocker as they were made, and if they used the same number subsequently the blocker intercepted them without allowing my phone to ring. There were only sporadic attempts with new numbers in the following two months. No calls at all - using old or new numbers - over the last two months. I have a feeling that they have given up and removed my number from their calling lists. Excellent +1 product.

Does its job well, but not the easiest to use and too easy to accidentally block numbers
Bought this for my aging mother-in-law, who was being plagued by nuisance calls from someone who refused to stop calling. I set it up for her, and whilst it wasn't too difficult, I didn't find it partiularly intuitive to use.More concerning, though, is that you can block a caller's number by simply pressing the asterisk ("*") key while on a call; this is too easy to do either accidentally or while interacting with "press <key> for ..." menu systems. My mother-in-law has accidentally blocked a couple of family members that way, and I've had to go and unblock them and write down clear instructions on how to do so - after re-figuring it out myself! It would be nice if the option to block calls from the handset was able to be turned off, or at least used a sequence of buttons that you'd be very unlikely to press if you weren't trying to block calls. After all, it's easy to use the block button on the device itself to block calls. She doesn't use the blocking of withheld numbers because too many departments within the NHS often call without a caller ID present, but if she was able to use that, it'd help block some nuisance/scam calls too.So, cost-effective way to block some nuisance calls, but it's a shame it's too easy to block legitimate callers, something of a design flaw there, and not the easiest device to use - keep the instruction manual safe!

Brilliant.
I am really pleased with this, I wish I had got one a long time ago. I only had a few days and I did not get so many nuisance calls, now It is nice just to know I can answer my phone and not have all these nuisance calls. Silence is golden. Love it and would recommend everyone to get one for the peace.

Blocks all calls
When connected either in parallel or series this device blocks all calls to my phone, I have no dial tone, a dead line! so yes you could describe it as a call blocker.

Not for me.
Easy to install but appeared to be blocking calls that I didn't want blocked in a rather random manner. The instruction leaflet is not all that clear to follow so perhaps it was me & not the call blocker. I usually have more success with getting things to work. I returned the item and was given an almost instant refund, very good in that department!

Had it a week and so far no nuisance marketing calls! This version does not have battery compartment, I'm hoping that call data will not be lost in the event of a power cut. Having said that, one of the reasons for having a landline is a reliable connection. The only reason I have lost a connection is because the rechargeable phone docking station is mains powered. In the event of a power cut I have a spare standard phone that can be plugged into another telephone socket without removing the Call Guardian.
